Yes. While not a biblically based article, my recollection was the author felt this was the reason for some or all of the gifts since they weren’t “practical” gifts. I just remember thinking it was an interesting hypothesis but not based on anything in fact, biblically.

Was he selected in an official way or not?
If he is not and was not, how do the people in this religion explain their failed process? Does this religion not currently have its vicar? Doesn’t that completely destroy their “Peter Principle” (pun intended, don’t get mad at me)

Mary and Joseph were not poor. Joseph was a craftsman and, using marxist speech, would have been “middle class” among other craftsman like black smiths, masons, cobblers, weavers, etc. They didn’t stay in a manger because they were poor. It was because there were no rooms at the inn. They were also not immigrants as it was required to travel for the census.
But we all know that.
