A couple of years back a columnist tried to make the case that Jesus was homeless when he was born, so as to make grift on this notion. I pointed out that, yes, Jesus was not born at home, but that is because Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem to be counted for the census. The census was taken for the purpose of taxing the populace. So, if Jesus was born homeless, it was because the government had taxed him out of his home!

Well, assuming that to be the case, that is.
That would make everyone in Judaea homeless though, having to have been uprooted to register in one’s birth town.
