James Cameron revealed on Monday that he would have to skip his film Avatar: The Way Of Water's Hollywood premiere after getting a positive Covid-19 test result.
The 68-year-old filmmaker revealed to Deadline that he had tested positive sometime after returning home from Japan following an Avatar 2 screening in Seoul, South Korea.
'I am in LA, just back from Tokyo, and I managed to pick up Covid on the plane, so I’m isolated and can’t go to my own premiere tonight,' Cameron said while speaking with Deadline.
The Titanic director joked about all the people he would no longer have a chance to catch up with at Monday's premiere.
The number of people I’ve told over the years, "Ah, we’ll catch up and I’ll see you at the premiere…" Well, I guess not. Man proposes, and God disposes,' he joked.
A representative for Disney, which is distributing the film through 20th Century studios, said via a statement: 'James Cameron has Covid, but is feeling fine.
'He tested positive as part of a routine testing cadence,' it continued. 'He will continue to complete his schedule virtually but will not be at the premiere.'
Cameron has been busy jetting across the world as he promotes the blockbuster ahead of its US premiere.

XD Fagatar... I like it. I say “Faggatron” a lot.
I’m so sorry to hear this.
How old is your daughter?
Has she been jabbed? Is she afraid of a weakened immune system?
Prayers up....for a wonderful visit.
I'd bet he wasn't traveling commercial.
Pocahontas in Space
He need not worry. Everybody else will be sitting the film out, too.
My daughter had it last week….compared it to a nasty cold.
.
Thank you! She’s a smart girl in most respects. 34. She has asthma and is afraid because of that aspect. Yes, she is doubly vaxxed and boosted, maybe even twice. She still wears her mask indoors. She knows I won’t anymore.
Everyone in our family except for her has had it at least once. Her younger brother got the 2020 version at Thanksgiving that year, and then the omicron version this past April. Our kids are spread across the country, so we haven’t been together since 2019.
I never realized she was quite this much a germaphobe until last year, when it became a real issue for us. She canceled on Christmas on the 23rd. It was a blessing. It would’ve been horrendous if she had come. We all took tests and were negative, but she was still too afraid, and like I said, it’s a very long trip.
We were able to visit with her at her home in September, so I hope she will just move forward from here on out, but because of the last minute cancellation last year, I know that whatever she decides will be what I have to deal with.
Like I said, I hold Anthony Fauci personally responsible for what has happened to my family. I have 2 sisters and a nephew that are also germaphobes, so it apparently runs in the family. I lost my oldest brother in August 2021 to CoVid (several comorbidities) and we were never able to have a celebration of life for him. It was supposed to happen in late September/ early October of this year, but Hurricane Ian became a thing, so that got canceled.
Seems like it’s one thing after another. If James Cameron has to miss his premiere, I’m sorry for him, but it’s nothing compared to what my family has gone through the last 2+ years. Nothing.
Again, thank you for the prayers!
Hubby and I had it in May of this year. I’ve had other colds that were as bad or worse than this was. I know there are many who suffer with long CoVid. Fauci belongs behind bars, IMHO.
Thanks for the info. They’re coming for us!
I feel perfectly healthy and I’ll be sitting that one out too
I got it at 54 years old. I was in good health, slim, ate well, exercised, lived clean, and looked good. Just the summer before I was walking all over Italy with my husband, climbing countless steps to the tops of towers and churches, with no effort whatsoever. My energy was boundless.
I now have Stage 2 COPD, a depleted endocrine system, and they are testing me for COVID-related myocarditis (never vaxxed).
Between 50 to 70% of people diagnosed with advanced stage myocarditis die within 5 years.
I had a heart-related event earlier this month. Collapsed at work with massive heart pain. I can no longer drive or work a full day. Thankfully my job loves me and I’m still bringing in about $50K in new business every month, so they will let me work from home for as long as I can.
Long COVID is brutal.
Yes, Fauci and friends deserve jail, not applause.
This is not how vaccines are supposed to work.
balderdash
the measles vacccine is only 88% effective against infection, but it still saves lives and it’s still a vaccine. The covid vaccine may not prevent all cases of covid, but it’s undeniable it has mitigated ICU admissions and deaths, especially in the elderly. Consider an embarassing 1 in 3 Americans have reported infections and over a million have died, which doesn’t say much for our genetic resistance.
ancedotally, hubby is the same age as Cameron. He’s had covid twice, the second time with Omnicron was worse. His acquired immunity was a big fat bust. THe same for his brother - caught it twice and also had a hard time plus ‘long covid’. Which just goes to show, ‘acquired’ or ‘vaccinated’ it’s an individual response no matter the vaccines and/or exposures. An older person may gamble on the vaccine; a younger person may gamble on their genes.
Here are the percentages of preventing infection, preventing ICU and preventing deaths, current real world:
https://www.healthdata.org/covid/covid-19-vaccine-efficacy-summary
vs last year real world:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34800687/
Curious; do the remaining 12% have a significant amount of people “dieing unexpectedly”? It seems that 88% immunity rate compared to 0% immunity rate would define the measles shot as a vaccine. The “esteemed” CDC has informed us that the COVID shitshot did not prevent infection, only lessons symptoms, and appears to be more than anecdotal in causing harm. So no, the COVID shitshot is not a vaccine, unless you go by the new definition by the CDC.
I replied, "I don't know. I stopped taking Covid tests."
He was aghast that anyone would do such a thing.
He didn’t miss anything.
Update: Daughter came for Christmas!! She was here for 3 full days!
CoVid was barely mentioned, thank God. She still wears her mask at the airport, but not around me. So that was awesome!
We had a splendid visit and I thank you for your prayers!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
