The total number of people employed by government in the United States increased by 28,000 in October, according to the numbers released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In September, the total number of people working for local, state and federal governments in this country was 22,322,000, according to BLS. In October, it rose to 22,350,000.
This was despite the fact that state government employment actually declined during the month. In September, there were 5,261,000 employed by state governments nationwide. In October, that dropped by 7,000 to 5,254,000.
By contrast, local government employment increased by 29,000 from September to October, climbing from 14,194,000 to 14,223,000.
At the federal level, government employment increased by 6,000, climbing from 2,867,000 to 2,873,000.
Total government employment in the United States peaked in May 2010 (a Census year) at 22,996,000. …

The Swamp gets bigger.
I hope the government can raise taxes enough to pay for all this…
There are about 160 Million employed people in the USA. If 23 million work for the government, that calculates to about 14% of the population is paid for by others.
Seems really high. What are these people doing?
And of course the only group they are actually surveying to compute numbers is the government. GREAT NEWS! UNEMPLOYMENT IS DOWN ACCORDING TO THE LATEST SURVEY AND THE ECONOMY IS ON A REBOUND. AFTER SURVEYING 29,000 PEOPLE, THESE ARE THE LATEST NUMBERS.
Get ready.

Largest employer in the county of Hawaii is the Government.
We are also the poorest county in the state of Hawaii.
Could it be nobody wants to do business here?
King Ron Klain, Obozo’s Chief of Staff and now Biden’s brains is doing all he can to pump up the stats. Big one coming are the 87k Armed IRS Agents to make employment stats look good.
I worked for govt job for 12 years. I still have not figured out what I accomplished there. But it was great way to ease into retirement after 25 years of long hours, and amazing accomplishments in private company.
Terrible. Need to reduce government
When real conservatives get in, they need to follow the Elon Musk takeover workforce reduction plan.
Bogus numbers.
Labor participation rate is DOWN. This is bls chicanery to try and spin the jobs number for the election. Nothing else.
From the article:
“Consider the following: the closely followed Establishment survey came in above expectations at 261K, above the 195K expected, and down modestly from last month’s upward revised 319K…… numbers which confirm that at a time when virtually every major tech company is announcing mass layoffs…… the BLS has a single, political agenda – not to spoil the political climate less than a week ahead of the payrolls by painting a “suboptimal” labor market picture.”
Lesson: never believe government numbers until you have had a chance to look closely at them.
Sorry. posted in wrong forum. My bad.
We need to transfer a lot of them to the military and a similar amount to the private sector.
I’ll bet more than half were friggin’ illegals like Pelosi’s boyfriend.
Ok I’ll play devil’s advocate here—6K more feds out of 3 million is not that big a deal. The average age of a fed is 50. Middle aged. The Boomer fed retirements will eventually hit, Gen X is small, and Gen Y and Z don’t want to work for the federal gov’t.
That appears to be all employment, not just government.
You are correct. I posting this as a rebuttal to a “employment numbers are good news” thread, and I had this one up too. My mistake. This is a good article. Thank you for posting it.
One of the tricks the statists pull is gov hiring a bunch of people and then claiming that is part of the overall growth in employment. That has happened for a long time, and I thank you for pointing out this lie. It is one they have been telling for a long long time.
Again, my “rebuttal” was not for this thread and I apologize for putting it here.
