Back in the day, I read ‘First Blood’, and ‘Alien’ before the movies were released.
Both movies were true to the novels.
I honestly didn’t know they were books as well. To be fair, I saw them as a kid first.
“ Both movies were true to the novels.”
First Blood ended with Rambo being killed by the Colonel.

Alien wasn’t based on a novel. Alan Dean Foster did a novelization, which being based on the script damn well better have been close. But Dan O’Bannon wrote is based really only on his previous work. It is, as he put it, Dark Star as a horror movie.
The author of First Blood, David Morrell, has written several really good books. May I recommend “The Brotherhood of the Rose”.
Same here. I was camping with a friend in his back yard when I was maybe 13 years old, and he told me about "First Blood". It was a good read, and I was excited years later to get word that a movie was being made. (My friend, "Scrap Iron", went on to become a top brass US Marine working in the Pentagon.)
I also remember one day, while working in the family cotton fields, my cousin told me there was a movie coming out in which apes ruled the world, and humans were slaves.
Days long past, but well remembered.
