A San Antonio police officer has been fired after he shot and injured a 17-year-old multiple times when the boy fled in his car after he startled him in a McDonald's parking lot.
Shocking video shows the moment that Erik Cantu was wounded multiple times while eating a cheeseburger inside of his car after being confronted by Officer James Brennand. An unharmed female passenger was seated next to the victim. She has not been identified.
Cantu was hospitalized at nearby University Hospital. He listed as being in critical but stable condition.
On Wednesday, the San Antonio Police Department acted swiftly in firing Brennand. He was still in his probationary period and had been on the job for just seven months.
Officers initially laid charges against the teenager for evading arrest and assault on a police officer, but those have since been dropped. Under Texas law, due to the fact that the teen had charges pending against him, his family was only permitted to be by his bedside for limited periods of time.
Brennand was called to the McDonald's after a reported disturbance when he noticed Cantu's car outside the restaurant.
The officer thought the car was the same one that evaded him the night before when he attempted to stop the vehicle as the registered license plate didn't match the vehicle.
Brennand approached Cantu's maroon car and called for cover, but quickly tried to take matters into his own hands and opened the car door.
Police have not confirmed whether Cantu's car was stolen.
Prior to the release of the video, Brennand maintained that he only opened fire on Cantu after the teenager hit him with his car.

Damn, Lee.
That could be a Jethro Tull song lyric from “A” or “Stormwatch”.
:)
The poor kid looked terrified.
[and he rightly “feared for his life”]
That’s what I thought. He got 4 bullets for it.
I have always been a supporter of the LEO.
Getting less absolute about that every day.

Ditto.
How many on here will fully believe that that was a good shoot?
Because they give you "lawful orders," you "submit" to their "authority," thus declaring yourself property of the government.
there was no ‘lawful order’ given in this situation. the cops just opened the car door and stuck his gun in the kids face... who was in mid-bite into his hamburger
I’ve said for years that cops should realize patience and politeness will get them further than demanding compliance. Back in the 80’ I knew A cop who could “polite” suspects into admitting their wrongdoing. He was a big guy, Marine ‘Nam Vet and knew things were goIng to go his way no matter what, so why be an a-hole?
This guy was a baby faced little runt of a prick with tiny willy syndrome.
I was polite, as always and he was having none of it.
“If I ever see you again....”
Yeah.
Great cop.
I just thank God I had no dogs in the car.
