I don’t regard it as “certain” that even in the past a majority of US citizens wanted to curtail the rights of blacks (lower case; the left capitalizes it), Jews, Mormons et al, so that is your red herring. And I certainly believe the alleged results of a poll conducted by the so-called National Opinion Research Center less, per the premise in the headline. Now what is true is that in both cases, government wanted to curtail such rights.
