The machine is programmed to SIMULATE consciousness. If it does so well enough, the user is likely to be come under the illusion (or perhaps, religious delusion) that human consciousness has emerged, somehow, from the code. It does not, cannot.

Real consciousness is not code, it’s not even material, in my long-considered opinion, take it for what it’s worth.

There is nothing magic about the Turing Test. If a program “passes” the Turing Test, it means the simulation of a human conversant was good enough to fool the user. Nothing more.

Exactly. Whatever decisions it concludes are the result of the combination of data and preprogrammed pathways.

Some may be unintentional and that’s when the fun begins. Let’s turn the ICBMs over to it for even more fun.
