A dirt bike rider is fighting for his life after he was tasered by a police officer while pumping gas at a Florida gas station, causing the pump to explode and him to be 'cooked alive' in a giant fireball, his attorneys say.
An internal investigation is currently underway over the Osceola County Sheriff's' handling of the incident.
Meanwhile Barretto, who was reportedly targeted because he attended a banned motorbike enthusiast event that was broken up by cops, is set to be put in a medically induced coma as he undergoes more intense treatment
The department recently adopted a zero-tolerance policy forbidding such rallies, lawyers for Barretto say. They are demanding the state take over the investigation and hold the officers involved accountable. The deputy has yet to be named.
The department has refused to provide body camera footage and incident reports chronicling the incident.
Video shows Barretto pumping gas into his motorbike outside the Orange County Wawa where the explosion would eventually occur, after he had stopped to get gas following the rally in Osceola County.
The footage the shows the unidentified officer deploy his Taser at Barretto, who was on the ground at the time. The shot then sets off a chain reaction causing the gas pump Barretto had been at to explode.
Police refused to turn over footage of the incident from the officers' body-cameras, and have yet to identify the deputies involved, pending an internal investigation.
Lawyers for Barretto are demanding the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and US Department of Justice take over the probe, and begin an investigation into the protocols, practices, policies, and procedures of the Sheriff’s Office.

He has political pull or he would not be a Deputy. By his own actions, he is not competent to do anything except beat the hell out of people who are unable to defend themselves, shoot the same or set people on fire. He is not competent to hold down a job anywhere.
Osceola County Sheriff’s Department has a long string of abuses. In this case the scumbags tried to suppress security camera footage as “evidence” but failed to get the online copies of the video suppressed.
These ignorant and malicious monkeys attacked Gene Baretto supposedly for ‘fleeing a felony traffic stop’ and the alleged felon then calmly stopped to get gas. Utter BS. They saw a guy with a dirtbike and decided to go after him. Scumbags.

So does living in pretty much any southern Florida jurisdiction. The cops in these jurisdictions are a proven threat to life, liberty, and the common good.
It’s already been 3 months. That’s very encouraging for survival. Most such burn cases die from infection and other complications within a month. Scarring and disfigurement will likely still result, but apparently his face was spared.
And there’s ALWAYS more to the story than a single “news” article tells. Something about this biker being part of a group that had pointed a gun at and harrassed other drivers. And two deputies also received burns. Wasn’t just a Lone Ranger deputy involved.
So wait for details before passing judgment.

Speaking of stupidity you didn’t watch the video did you? Because it shows a guy standing at a gas pump minding his own business when the jacktard with a badge runs up on him and needlessly tackles him.
Idiot cop could have just walked up, had a civil conversation with the guy pumping gas, and if a cursory investigation yielded any info then a ticket could have been written.
Instead what’s very likely to happen here is another idiot with a badge and a gun will soon be facing some kind of homicide and civil rights charges.

Interesting observation here is that some of the same people busy supporting the cop are familiar from some of the Ukraine topics where they’re cheerleading for Russia.
They must have quite a sadistic streak to get off on seeing people suffer at the hands of bullies.

Not only tackles him but knocks him and his bike over, spilling gasoline everywhere, then while on the ground decides to deploy a taser.. from the video it sure doesn’t even look like the man even knew the cop was there...
So copy blindsides a man filling his bike up with gas, knocking him, and his motorcycle to the ground, (and this is almost certainly where the gas and fumes that ignite came from) and then because the person likely not knowing what the hell was actually going on, since he’d just been blindsided and driven into the ground, fights back, and the cop attempts to tase him... and in the process burns him alive.
Like I said unless there is way more context that is not known, this doesn’t look in any way like the cop did anything right here.
I’m hard pressed to believe there is going to be context to justify blindside tackling a man who is no threat to anyone because he was at a motorcycle rally.
I’m more than happy to see if the body cam offers more context, but since this happened in February and its now nearly June, I’d say odds that that film will provide it for the cop is slim to none.
Unless this cop had some reason to believe this man was a physical threat, which it sure doesn’t seem to be any on the tape, nothing he did was justified, and if he believed the man to be an imminent threat (armed and dangerous etc) running up to blindside tackle them when they aren’t currently doing anything threatening I doubt is proper procedure.

I wouldn’t say I hate cops. Some of them are splendid people.
But I can tell you this much: Were someone to ‘SWAT’ you and convince your local PD that you were an active shooter they’d come at you from every direction and they’ll absolutely kill you before you even know what’s happening.

It’s unlikely that the victim attended the rally. If he had then then DA would press charges because doing so helps to prevent the victim’s family from suing the county and it makes the case for qualified immunity.

Other cities have tried this. It leads to an increase of suspects fleeing from the police. They know they won’t be pursued.
We need to stop over reacting and realize that sh!t happens. There are 300 million Americans and bad things happen sometimes. Punish the cop involved and move on.
I would say “being swatted” is at the absolute bottom of the list of things I worry about. Right below being swatted by the wife who thinks she sees a mosquito on my arm. :-)

A guy in my neighborhood believed and stated that very thing while he and another fellow were having a smoke out back. He then said “Wanna see? Look…” he then tossed the cigarette into an open container of gasoline. The resultant explosion burned him badly enough to require hospitalization.
