One of the most intellectual of all rock bands.
One that I wanted to see but never could..............
They still tour w/o Becker of course. I've seen them 4-5 times. My only complaint was the set list hardly changed each year. I wanted to go to NYC a few years ago when they were performing whole albums, never could arrange it.
I did see them in concert in early 70s in Long Beach Ca.
Best music I have ever heard done live. They were masters at sounding exactly like their records. They were unbelievably good and they did most of their hits up to that point. It was the Pretzel Logic tour so I got to hear that album for the very first time played live.
I thought Steely Dan was mostly a studio band and didn’t do touring?
“One of the most intellectual of all rock bands.”
Now, what does that name Steely Dan refer to again?
“ One of the most intellectual of all rock bands.”
Many many years ago I worked in record stores. Several of them, for years, before I went on to labels.
The majority of Steeley Dan purchasers were of a specific type, more so with the earlier stuff. The stoned pseudo-intellectual liberal arts major who thinks it’s jazzy enough to intoxicate the “natural” girls he tries to date. If he can actually get one into his shared studio apartment that is.
I did get to see the can’t buy a thrill version of steely Dan when they were actually a band. Pretty good.
I saw them twice. Two of the best concerts I have ever attended.
They did a series of concerts at the Beacon Theater and would play one album from beginning to end. I chose “The Royal Scam” night.
The other concert was with Michael McDonald as the opener.
Both nights are etched in my aging memory.
