Florida cop grabs female officer by the throat and shoves her into patrol car after she tried to pull him off a suspect

A police sergeant in Florida has been demoted to desk work after he was seen on video grabbing a fellow officer by her throat.

Authorities in Sunrise, Florida shared body camera footage of an incident that took place November 19.

Everyone in the video had their face blurred except for Sergeant Christopher Pullease, 46, a 21-year veteran of the force.

Sunrise police were detaining a suspect who was 'verbally and physically resistive' when Pullease came on the scene and got aggressive, Chief Anthony Rosa said in a statement.

Pullease then got into a verbal altercation with the suspect, who was already sitting inside a police car.

Body camera footage shows Pullease ducking his head inside the car to talk to the suspect while holding a can of pepper spray.

Rosa said that Pullease was 'inappropriate and unprofessional' in the situation and added that he 'unnecessarily elevated the demeanor of the suspect.'

A fellow officer - who has not been identified but has been on the force two and a half years - ran toward Pullease and pulled him by the back of his duty belt.

Video shows Pullease turn around while backpedaling as he was pulled, then momentarily putting his hand at the other officer's throat and pushing her backward until she hits a nearby police car. Pullease then walks away.

According to Rosa, the second officer was following Sunrise police's own policies and procedures for a situation where there's 'imminent fear of engagements escalating' between officers and suspects.

Pullease has been taken off his supervisory duties since the incident. Internal affairs is investigating, with Rosa calling his behavior 'disgusting.'

"Say what you want, every other cop on that department knows not to ever trust her again."

I'm a female who worked in uniform for 25 years as an officer, and Sergeant in NY State's prison system. I totally agree with you. She should be shunned. She had no business putting her hands on a supervising officer, especially in front of the perp. She made a bad career move, and hopefully it will haunt her no matter where she is working, or who she is working with. She's got baggage now.

"If the suspect was already inside the police car, no reason for Pullease to continue to cuss him out."

There is no camera view of the perp inside the car, to even know what he was, or wasn't doing while the Sergeant was dealing with him.

Women should only be on duty to help female victims of domestic violence and/or rape. They can be excellent interrogators, since they can connect with a narcissist’s bruised ego and get them to confess.

Shouldn’t be on the streets.

Seems likely to me that nearly every PD in the land had post-Floyd training on avoiding violence and definitely NOT doing stuff to cuffed but still troublesome arrestees. Veteran cops might see that as a show of weakness likely to get cops killed, but perhaps the female officer, who darn near started her career in the shadow of the Chauvin-Floyd incident, took it seriously.

I see being the Chief in either Portland or Seattle in her future.

“We really do not know why she pulled the other officer away.”

My opinion, based on my years as a correctional officer, is that she was probably trying to save him from making a very bad mistake. It will be interesting to see what kind of history he has.

He had the suspect in the car. Shut the door and walk away. Steroids mess you up.

By the looks of him, I would lay odds he doesn’t have a clean record.

Were you also one of those cops who turned a blind eye when a fellow officer broke the law?

I couldn’t get the Daily Mail video to load. But I have seen a video of this incident elsewhere. The perp was definitely in the car, both feet in. That sergeant could have just shut the patrol car door had he wanted to.

But was the perp yelling and spitting? That I couldn’t tell.

I have the feeling that rookie schools now teach the new recruits that THEY will go to prison if they are on the scene and don’t intervene when another officer (senior or not) goes over the line. How many other cops have been fired or convicted because they were there... maybe they didn’t kneel on someone’s neck but they didn’t “protect” the suspect either (whether they were in custody or not). The only other option the female officer had was to walk away and “pretend” not to see what was happening. What bothers me about this one is the suspect was handcuffed. There wasn’t a threat. IMHO.

I believe he treated her like he would have most male officers that did that. What’s the issue?

As an LEO for 25 years I say she did a great job. That SOB has no business wearing a badge and should be charged with assaulting an officer.

If he worked for me he would be fired by close of business.

Every officer has a bad day now and then and its up to your partners to pull you out before you trash your career. Physically assaulting her crossed the line and is beyond redemption.

A 21 year vet vs. 2 1/2 year rookie?

Which would you think would know/handle the situation better?

“The Fem cop saved the city from a mult-imillion $ lawsuit - for spraying police grade MACE on a handcuffed ‘suspect’ in the back of the car.”

CORRECT
