MultiCare hospitals order symptomatic COVID-positive staff to see patients

MultiCare Health Systems is ordering symptomatic, COVID-positive staff to work at its area hospitals, the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH has learned. Officials with the organization are refusing to comment.

According to an internal memo dated January 6, MultiCare hospitals have moved into “crisis levels of staffing.” The impetus for the move was the rise in hospital visits, though not all due to COVID.

Consequently, the hospitals modified their return-to-work process, ordering staff “to work even if they are experiencing mild symptoms but are improving.” But a MultiCare staffer claimed unless a staffer has a fever, “they want us coming in.” It’s unclear if COVID-positive staff are even disclosing their status to patients or coworkers.

At a January 6 press conference, MultiCare’s chief quality, safety, and nursing officer June Altaras addressed reporters on the state’s hospital staffing crisis.

She described a quicker turnaround time for COVID-positive staffers to return to work, “so that we can appropriately bring back employees a bit sooner so we can continue to deliver the standard of care we expect for all of our patients.”

But MultiCare announced that same day, in an internal all-staff memo obtained by the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH, that the hospital was bringing back staff who are both COVID-positive and experiencing symptoms.

“Under these guidelines, some staff may return to work even if they are experiencing mild symptoms but are improving,” Altaras and David Carlson, DO, SVP & Chief Physician Officer, wrote.

There are eight total MultiCare hospitals in the Puget Sound region, with locations in Tacoma, Olympia, Covington, Auburn, Puyallup, and Seattle.

A chart attached to the memo, titled, “Management of COVID-exposed and COVID-positive staff during crisis staffing level,”

Staff who test positive for COVID, regardless of vaccination status, may return to work. They’re allowed to treat patients.

I guess the risk of Covid is not so bad after all.

At least it seems like they don't have a vax mandate

There’s a shortage of tests.

At a time when so many workplaces are demanding testing, it’s hard for many people to get one.

Great planning, Joe. Trump got a vaccine out in record time, and you can’t even keep us supplied with tests.

The more people their workers infect the more federal bounty $ they can collect for. What an evil business.

Tests?
What do the tests indicate? The tests are not reliable, inconclusive and a waste of time and money.
False positives. False negatives.
The tests detect …… something. But is the “something” relevant?
It seems to me these home tests are just one more way to keep the citizenry in suspense? Ooh …. did you do your at-home tests this week?
Ooh… did Betty Jo tell you blah blah blah

At least it seems like they don't have a vax mandate.

This is certainly not true in our state. Our governor ordered all health care workers to be fired if they were not vaxed. This also went for Firefighters, police, teachers, daycare workers, restaurant and fast food workers, everyone who worked for the state and pretty much every one else.

So when we had a big snow storm a couple of weeks ago, the passes were closed and there were not enough snow plow operators to get them opened back up for a week. At the same time I-5 was closed for several days because there were not enough people to get it opened back up after major flooding. Everything started disappearing off the shelves in grocery stores. Things still have not got back to normal.

Cool, those are my local hospitals.
Maybe they’re about to go rogue in this state.

More likely the Governor will get his business where it don’t belong again.

covid recovering taking care of covid infected is a good plan when there is no other plan. Those recovering personnel are suited up.

Or, there’s always Plan C, the hospitals could divert, close to the public, and refuse additional patients, as happened in Calif not so long ago, and, surprise, not really, just like groundhog day, taking place again right now. And folks being told not to call 911 unless it’s life or death because, that’s right - transport drivers are also out sick, from fire rescue to ambulance transport:
“hundreds of officers and firefighters are out sick due to COVID, and it’s adding more stress for nurses and doctors.”

“52 out of 62 hospitals that LA City Fire dispatches to are currently on diversion, closed to new patients due to lack of hospital beds and staffing.”

with Omi, a person is most infectious a few days before to a few days after symptoms. By then, the body’s defenses kick in and kick the virus out (hopefully). At 7-10 days post first symptoms, most mild/moderate cases test negative for covid. Another week for severe infected. There’s no need to give a recovering Omi 14 days off if the trade-off is Plan C.

All this proves is all this crap has nothing to do with keeping anyone safe from covid.

They’d prefer sick covid workers who have been vaxxed, for all the good it did them, to non-sick, unvaxxed workers.

Its deliberate. Theres no science behind it. They want people dead, they want them vaxxed, thet want to make money so their sick workers will infect patients with covid to cash in, and they want money because they get lots of money per vax.

They no longer care abput natural immunity, i think they dont even remember it exists and is better than any vaxxed immunity.

Things still have not got back to normal.

If people would just take the jab, things would "get back to normal". At least that's what I am told...

It's amazing. The narrative finally meets reality, and all of the sudden it's OK; being infected isn't really that bad. At least not bad enough that COVID suffers can't be around people in hospitals all of the sudden. You know most FR COVID apologists thoughtfully post about things and conveniently leave out the part that this whole thing is not about public health, and hasn't been for a long time. Multicare saying COVID positive workers can see patients is just more proof.

This is as bad as sending sick Covid patients into nursing homes.

Just kind of the inverse.

Either way, it’s a deliberate attempt to murder people. Cull out the sick and weak and those whoa re going to cost money either for Social Security or ins companies.

My point was that workplaces are demanding tests, and tests are not available - whether they are accurate or not.
