The Taliban appear to have “strategic momentum” in the fight for control of Afghanistan as they put increasing pressure on key cities, setting the stage for a decisive period in coming weeks as American forces complete their withdrawal, the top U.S. military officer said Wednesday.
“This is going to be a test now of the will and leadership of the Afghan people — the Afghan security forces and the government of Afghanistan,” Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon press conference.
The Pentagon says the U.S. withdrawal is 95% finished and will be completed by Aug. 31. And while the Biden administration has vowed to continue financial assistance and logistical support for Afghan forces after August, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the focus of U.S. military efforts there will be countering terrorist threats, not the Taliban.
Speaking alongside Milley, Austin said the U.S. will “keep an eye on” al-Qaida, the extremist network whose use of Afghanistan as a haven for planning the 9/11 attacks on the United States was the reason U.S. forces invaded Afghanistan in 2001. …

The Taliban isn’t wasting their time reading about “white supremacy”, “white fragility”, they just fight to win.
Don’t think about what he probably does with his aides . . .
Further proof that “Military Intelligence” is an oxymoron.
A bunch, no doubt.
We always had restrictive ROE.
We can drain the life out of them if we airdrop a few hundred lawyers.
No $hit Sherlock
after watching pussy-hat Milley backstab
President Trump for ChInA, the Taliban just
got excited, and waited for the weapons from Milley.
I’m impressed that Milley and Austin were able to take time away from purging the military of dangerous extremist conservative Trump supporters and reading CRT propaganda to make these brilliant observations.
All the while, Milley has Jaomentum.
Maybe we just aren’t cut out to police that part of the world, anymore, and maybe we never were.
Better to just get back on focusing on our Hemisphere.
General Milley should be gone! He is not a military man of any sort.
Nah. The mission is failing after 20 years of effort, trillions of dollars, and thousands of US armed forces personnel killed or wounded. But he’s got orders to leave regardless - direct from El Presidente no less - and that’s good enough for him.
When is this genius’ four year term as CJCS up anyway?
Maybe the Afghans will get a better deal from the Chinese. Sure.
Its obvious why the Taliban have strategic momentum. They are leading with their tranny troops. Constantly bombarding the enemy by dropping them on the enemy from tall buildings. Shooting them at the enemy out of cannons. Hiding IEDs under them. The Talibans trannies are the tip of the spear.
I think Thoroughly Modern Millie should require the Taliban to take diversity and anti-racism training before we Americans withdraw.
Of course they are with Generals like this! These pansies are the reason we got our butts kicked by camel jockeys.
Who’s side is this guy on?
I know that they got (1970) an enlisted and officer aide for each star. I worked for the wife and kept the the general well-fed, shined, and lubed. It was a great place but never got to know anyone beyond my neighbors.
Treason, they name is MIlley Vanilli.
