Opinion: The climate crisis can't be stopped, we must adapt
Deutsche Welle ^ | 07.16.2021 | David Ehl

The extent of destruction and death wrought by Germany's recent floods is slowly becoming apparent. Dozens of people have died, with many still reported missing. The disaster has devastated entire towns, washing away residential houses, cars and trees.

Natural disasters are nothing new. They occurred long before the advent of the industrial age, when humans began burning fossil fuels on a large scale.

Over time, however, atmospheric CO2 concentrations have doubled, raising Earth's temperature by 1 degree Celsius (1.8° Fahrenheit). A greater frequency and intensity of natural disasters has been the consequence.

As vast swaths of western Germany are dealing with one of the worst floods in years, parts of North America are grappling with scorching hot temperatures that have left scores dead and sparked forest fires that have proven very difficult to contain. The Northern Hemisphere, in short, is facing a climate crisis. […]

Germany's Federal Statistical Office recorded an 11% increase in deaths during a weeklong heat wave this summer. It is almost unimaginable what would happen if temperatures were to rise to 46, 47 or even 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit), as they have done this summer in the Canadian town of Lytton. Lytton, incidentally, lies near 50 degrees north latitude, just like the German towns of Boppard and Coburg, in central Germany.

This means we should be taking safety precautions. Reconfiguring our cities could help, for instance by ensuring air can properly circulate in urban conglomerations. Preserving or cultivating green spaces can help lower temperatures. Concrete structures and asphalt surfaces, after all, lock in the heat. …

Burchardi Flood 1634 — 8000+ dead.

So was it climate change in/near Hamburg, Germany in 1634 too?

Let’s be more specific:

Once the “anthropomorphic climate change” meme is finally dead, they’ll pivot to “$trillions$ to adapt”.

Yes, the original reason for the hoax was neo-Malthusian, (see Club of Rome), for 98% of the Warmistas it’s always been about the money.

Absolutely...If they were sufficiently intelligent and unemotional enough to realize the actual causes of climate change, they would still be arrogant enough to think they could pass laws to stop it.

LOL...Laws would be proposed to require building only in areas that would not contribute to increases in earth's precession. And electronic emissions would be tightly controlled, lest sun activity be adversely affected.

I remember the large financial institutions worldwide were excited about about climate change because of an entire new type of instrument was going to be created for cap and trade and they were going to make huge money trading them.

“Climatologists” couldn’t predict this heat wave where I live last year, but they can predict all weather in 100 years.

Uh Huh.

I guess they never got the memo: “Everybody talks about the weather but nobody ever does anything about it”. Been hearing it for 70 years.

I think that what you wear is very important to adapting to climate change. When it is cold out, I feel more comfortable if I put on more clothing. On the other hand, if it is really hot I find that I’m more comfortable if I wear minimal clothing like a shorts and a T shirt. I’m not saying that this is going to work for everyone, but I find it to be helpful.

This whole frenzy is probably a bunch of capitalists leveraging the hyperemotionalism of the leftie crowd just so they can make money.

It’s like the guys making money trying to outlaw the greenhouse gas dihydrogen monoxide. I like your examples of only building where it won’t affect the Earth’s precession — very clever. Make tons of money filling out Precession Impact Reports.

Adapting to climate extremes (whatever one thinks the cause may be) seems like a smarter response than trying to change the climate with economic programs that cannot work for a number of different reasons (one of which may be a faulty assessment of cause and effect, another a matter of scale).

Adapting to climate extremes is also not a new concept. This is basically the foundation of advanced cultures. Weather-related disasters of the past (let’s say the 19th century) led to two advances, better engineering and weather forecasting. Both can help to reduce the impact of the same weather extremes that caused the earlier disasters. The climate didn’t change as much as the response to the climate.

We are not really doing a very good job of responding to climate challenges that have probably existed all along but have a different impact now that many more people are trying to live in regions that have high climate stress. A hundred years ago, very few people lived in some of the wildfire zones that are now quite significant population areas due to lifestyle choices (people want to live in parkland settings in the west, and they can because of modern technology).

Then also look at the water crisis in the west, entirely predictable even if we assume climate is steady-state, due to the exponential increase in demand. Planning and responses for this are feeble at best. The end result will be useless infrastructure with no water to trap or move.

We have wasted decades arguing about the political-economic aspects of climate, while avoiding any realistic and effective solutions. This suits the political left, fixing problems is not really what they are trying to do anyway, rather it is exploiting problems to create division and a vacuum that requires the imposition of strong centralized socialist government to maintain order. Their plan is working although only for them and their allies, and not for the larger populations they claim to be serving. In other words they are scavengers feasting on the dead body of a society that they have no real plan to maintain, only to take advantage of the looting opportunities.

Any leftist who believes CO2 is evil, should do their part and stop exhaling their own CO2.

Mother Earth will thank you...as will all normal human beings who live in Realville and have an IQ higher than a bowling ball.
