A one hour flight from Las Vegas, Nevada to Stockton, California turned into a 17-hour trip
Allegiant Airlines flight 161 was scheduled to land in Stockton on Monday at 9:30 pm but was not cleared for landing due to an unmanned control tower
The plane was flown back to Las Vegas where it was turned away due to thunderstorms
Roughly 175 passengers were eventually deplaned at LAX and made to wait in a holding room without a bathroom
The flight to Stockton was then rescheduled for the next day as upset passengers were given $250 ticket vouchers and left to sort out their situation on their own.
'There was a guy that said, 'What do we do? Do we need to find hotel rooms, are we on our own?' And the gentleman said, 'Yes, as of right now, you're on your own.''

So glad I no longer fly. These stories make me laugh tho!!
Just wait until they start using Electric Planes that can only travel 250 miles

Allegient makes Greyhound look like a luxury carrier.
Their stock in trade is super cheap flights made on old planes. They make money by up charging for practically everything and only flying into airports during their dead times (to keep airport fees low)
I recently drove from Southern Connecticut to Rochester, MN and back because we did not want to deal with the nonsense from the airlines!
Most most recent flight was supposed to be less than 2 hours but it turned in to over 18 hours. Flying right now is horrible.
I guess the airliners got their bailout and shareholders are now well taken care of.
Not enough workers at airports right now either. Restaurants and shops are often closed early. They cannot get help right now. I guess too many of them were out rioting and looting to have any time to work.
Scheduling a flight into a field with an unmanned control tower. They should be out of business soon.
I would have rented a car at LAX and just driven the 5 hours to Stockton. Probably gotten some others to come with me and pay gas.
You would think the airline would have just chartered a bus for people.
Kind of reminds me of my flight from Hell. We were leaving St. Louis Lambert Field bound for San Francisco. I think this was back in the TWA days. I scored a first class upgrade and was thrilled to be able to get some rest after a tough week of business travel.
On the climb-out, the first class cabin toilet overflowed and the lovely blue water went everywhere in first class. Most of it seemed to head for my shoes, though.
We made an unscheduled stop in Kansas City, but there was no aircraft available. Finally, they got an aircraft around 1 am, but, by that time, there was no flight crew. All the previous crew had hit the witching hour and got to go to a nice hotel to sleep. I think we finally got out around 4 am and got home around 10 am. I think I skipped work that day.
I complained a lot to TWA, but I don’t think I ever got so much as a “We are sorry” letter from them.
My boss at the time had purchased a lifetime frequent flier club membership from them around 1976 for around $200. That wasn’t worth much when the lifetime of the airline turned out to be rather short.
Driving is still a freedom.
Who knows how long it will remain a personal liberty.
Not sure why anyone would want to go to Stockton in the first place.
The captain was a man named Jonas Grumby, his co-pilot Willy Gilligan, and the names of the flight attendants were only released as Ginger and Mary Ann.
I was flying from Kansas City to Omaha years ago and got on three different flights only to pull us off due to mechanical issues. That’s when you start thinking that someone is telling you to not fly.
After 10 hours, was able to get back on another airline. I remember a couple guys and I talking about how we would have better off renting a car & driving the three hours home.
Typical crappy headline - a flight originating anywhere and going to California is a journey to hell, NOT a journey from hell...
Stockton is a s***hole. Nobody needs to go there this bad.
Stockton is about 520 miles from Las Vegas by road, so the drive would take about nine hours. If you take Rtes. 99, 58 and Interstate 15, you will be on the freeway all the way with no rush hour traffic.
It typically takes me 3 1/2 hours to drive from North Orange County to Vegas.
