If I recall correctly, near the end of GA he talks about how labeling prisoners was inhumane, but somehow he and the other prisoners came to identify with their arbitrarily assigned numbers.
I think I remember this photo because it was included in the abridged version of the book that I have. Once you see it it’s hard to forget!
I have read it at least four or five times-it is one of the most powerful books that describes the impersonal tyranny that is inherent in Communism.
