Tech temp tattoos are nearly here. Microsoft Research and MIT's Media Lab have published details of Tattio, a futuristic research project looking into "on skin" technology.
Inspired by the kind of metallic temporary tattoos you'd find at Coachella or Glastonbury, the team used gold imitation leaf metal and applied it to tattoo paper with stencil traces.
In terms of functions, Microsoft Research and the Media Lab then experimented with a few ideas. The first was NFC tags to act as your digital identity and the idea is that people could choose how big an antenna they want to use in terms of both aesthetics and power.
Next, thanks to conductive fabric tape and basic curvy, customisable wires, the team added LEDs and vibration motors to experiment with other features that a tech tattoo could offer. The last, more fashion focused idea was to create heat-activated colour changing tats by applying a layer of thermochromioc paint.
The cost of a Tattio NFC tag is reportedly only about $1.50, making it as affordable as dumb temporary stick-on tattoos. It's removable, obviously, and is designed to be robust enough to last a full day so could make sense for events.
The prototype that was worn by testers (who felt "cyborged") worked with a smartphone app that could display an image and text when close to each tech tattoo.
“Let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number"
and those human numbers feed AI which is of course benevolent, and perfect as its creators.
You, too, can wear the mark of the beast.
I'm just thrilled at the prospect.
What you do after Apple locks up all the IP on facial recognition.
Hmmm, sounds like it is expressly designed for events like those all day music concerts. Given that they already have this tech for badges it seems like a short step.
LOL! Recycled article from 2016
I can see applications on cruse ships, theme parks, sporting events, military, datacenter buildings etc.
Each make will id you personally and you could use it to access areas, purchase or sell things.
Even better they cannot easily be transferred to another person once they are printed on your wrist or forehead
Really cool

the future is now. how long does it take something like this to get from research to commercialization ?
perhaps you should make a note to watch for this in 2022-23 timeframe.
Wow. Never saw that picture of him before.
If I recall correctly, near the end of GA he talks about how labeling prisoners was inhumane, but somehow he and the other prisoners came to identify with their arbitrarily assigned numbers.
I think I remember this photo because it was included in the abridged version of the book that I have. Once you see it it’s hard to forget!
I have read it at least four or five times-it is one of the most powerful books that describes the impersonal tyranny that is inherent in Communism.
If you were making a movie about the Gulag and went to central casting and asked for a “zek”...you couldn’t do better than getting him as he appears in that picture.
You’re right. It almost seems like he deliberately tried to epitomize the zek in his posture and expression. Almost like he knew one day this photo would be seen.
I have never seen that picture. But for some reason, I have seen exactly that picture in my head a thousand times.
If it is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, then that picture is a thousand word summary of the evil of communism.
“perhaps you should make a note to watch for this in 2022-23 timeframe.”
You post a recycled article from 2016 when the last news was the MIT lab shutting down in 2016?
“MIT’s Media Lab have published details of Tattio”
Lab shut down Tattio operations in 2016.
