I have to tell the story about my experience at the Big Tex steakhouse.
When my wife and I were there some big ol’ boys from Australia came in. They were going to try for the free 72 ounce steak. One of the biggest boys, who we thought could do it, went to town.
Knives and forks? Pshaw. He coolly and casually picked up that steak and started in on it. Not fast and furiously mind you, but deliberately and cautiously. Knowing that he must pace himself.
Did he do it? Did he finish that 72 ounce steak in less than an hour?
No he did not. But he gave it his best shot.
The first one took here about 6 minutes, and then she ordered a second one. About 9 minutes.
That's two 72 oz steaks plus salads, rolls, fried shrimp and drinks. 15 minutes.
Great advertising for the restaurant. I think that they have now given over 10,000 of the meals away since they started the promotion in the 60’s.
Once when I broke her out, asked where she wanted to go.
She said the (only) cafe in town.
Somehow, we managed to order KC For Two...twice.
That was five pounds of sirloin with baked potatoes and other fix'ns.
We stayed for 1.5 hours and ate the entire meal.
I guess the Aussie never show the movie “The Great Outdoors” where the steak was known as “Old 92”.
