Everyone knows that life isn't fair. One of the best examples of this is tax season. For individuals, it is usually a time of paperwork, worry and paying what is owed. Most taxpayers work in one place and simply file taxes there.
For big companies, it is also a time of paperwork and worry. Unlike most people though, companies often work in a number of places, can scramble to move money and profits overseas and look for tax breaks in the hope that they don't owe anything. In many cases, they get away with it. Loopholes have let many US companies avoid a lot of taxes for the past 40 years. Around the world, corporate tax rates have been dropping for years.
Creating a universal protocol to stop companies from looking for a good tax jurisdiction is not a new idea. In response to recent pressure for a digital service tax on Big Tech companies like Google and Facebook that sell goods and services around the globe, the OECD has been trying to reach a deal on how and where to tax them.
These talks have included the option of an international minimum tax for companies. So far, they have not been able to come to an agreement and a big push is needed. […]
…(F)or any international regulation to work, most countries in the world will need to sign up and start enforcement at the same time. One bad apple could ruin the pie. We are still at the beginning of long negotiations, and the US must take the lead. It will be an uphill battle — most difficult will be setting an acceptable tax rate. Nonetheless, creating a level playing field is a battle worth fighting. One that may make life a bit fairer for everyone. …

is that a camel’s nose in the tent?
Jareth: "You say that so often. I wonder what your basis for comparison is."
How ‘bout a big ol’ “F... THAT!”
I’m all for this if it reduces taxes but the odds of that are slim and none and of course Slim has left town.
When parasites like the author of this drivel talk about leveling the playing field what they mean is leveling the scoreboard. You work for your assets money doesn’t come falling out for f the sky just because you live in the first world or because you have “white privilege” - whatever that is. someone else may decide that work is for losers and sit around collecting welfare. Are they equal to you. Do they deserve a share of the fruits of you labor? I’d say hell no.
Every leech and bloodsucker in human form always has some sort of rationale for stealing what’s yours and trying to claim the moral high ground for doing it. None other than ANTIFA and BLM and the Cortez nitwit have stated that speech and ideas they disagree with are violence. Then when they say idiotic stuff that I disagree with they’re committing violence against me. Should I have the right to defend myself? According to them I should.
It’s time the world SUBMIT to a global minimum tax.
There. Fixed.
I totally agree with the writer of this article. A global minimum tax is both necessary and required. Ultimately, this is what a totally fair new set of income taxes would look like:
Global Minimum Tax: 5%
U.S. Federal Tax 45%
State Tax 8%
Local Tax 2%
For a total 60% income tax. That's quite fair. You still get to keep a little under 50% of your income. And it ensures that more money gets distributed to dictatorships around the world via the Global Minimum Tax (5%), to programs such as perhaps a new "Buy Black" program at the U.S. federal (45%) and state (8%) levels, and to the local (2%) level to fix potholes.
Makes sense to me. More dictatorships and more race-based programs. That's clearly the way to go. We should thank the stars that the liberals control the Presidency, Senate, and House. They really know what they're doing. I have total faith in them to do the right thing. Thanks, Mitt Romney!
Over taxation + Socialism = Communism
The word gone wanting is: Submit.
I used to hate taxes because of the unconscionable waste. Now I hate them because they will pay thugs to drag me to jail for disagreeing with them.
