This subject of secession used to be taboo on Free Republic, but now there's a lot of freewheeling discussion about it.

The principal objection I hear is that this would be “too complicated.” Blood in the streets will be more complicated. Everyone’s 401k’s will be threatened. Smart and powerful people had better start thinking about ways to split it up.

I think the invitation to secede should be extended on a person to person basis.

Not all divorces end up in knockdown dragout fights. Some end ‘amicably’.

That would be the way to hope, not the way to bet.

The question is who or what do you secede from?

Honestly it all is useless when the workings of Soros and the CCP has been soaking into every county for quite some time.

The Puerto Rican Independence Movement ran several candidates but none of them won. They ran legally. There was a similar movement in Alaska.

Advocating for independence is not illegal but threatening to overthrow the Federal Government is.

Given the realities of the county level maps perhaps creating “leftist reservations” similar to Indian reservations is the right approach. The problem would be evicting the leftists from control over the rest of us. They like it, and they need us far more than we need them. I doubt they’d let go without a fight.

It won’t end well. Not even as well as the last time.

With the way military bases are scattered all over the place there can be no amicable secession. Either one side winds up completely unarmed, or the other side is freaking out because a new “enemy” has all kinds of cool toys, including nukes.

I think a better answer is existing states calving off their large metropolitan areas into new states. Nobody secedes from the Union, but Leftist social experiments remain confined to the urbs, rather than the suburbs.

FReepers are perhaps the greatest example of American conservative patriots, but look how many naysayers on this thread.

True, your county maps picture what should be done, but if FReepers represent the best patriotism has to offer, and they find all kinds of excuses to NOT do anything, how is your proposal, Kevmo, going to get anywhere?

Sounds good on paper but counties are subdivisions of the state, and if the red counties can’t overturn their blue governor’s covid mandates, they won’t have much chance seceding

They won’t let anyone secede. They want your property/savings & they will take it.

How about we just apply to become an "autonomous region" in the People's Republic of China?

That's what talk like that ends up with.

Nobody wants to have to cross international borders to get to work or to school or to the doctor or to the mall because somebody has the asinine idea of splitting up the country.

Split up the country and nobody benefits except our enemies, rivals, and competitors.

Before January 6, I wouldn't have considered it.

If the blue cities secede and leave the rest of us alone, we should be just fine.

“Indian Reservations, which are still sovereign”

Yeah. If “sovereign” means obey the US government and give tribute.

How can a divorce between makers and takes ever be amicable?? It’d be like the old song “She got the gold mine, I got the shaft!”
