Der Spiegel: Who is the greatest threat to the free world at the moment? Russia, China or Donald Trump?
McMaster: It is certainly the revisionist authoritarian regimes of Russia and China. But maybe even a bigger threat may be the loss of confidence in democratic institutions and processes. This problem existed before Trump. He reflects more than amplifies divisions in our society. Our loss of confidence is due in part to unchecked globalization that left many American workers without jobs. Many felt abandoned by the political establishment. Then came the financial crisis that made a bad situation worse. [ ]
Der Spiegel: Many of the U.S. partners view the man in the White House and not China and Russia as the main threat. According to a poll published just a few months ago, Germans trust Vladimir Putin and Chinese ruler Xi Xinping significantly more than they do Trump. How do you explain this rather sobering finding?
McMaster: I think it expresses a remarkable level of self-loathing and moral equivalency that is the bane of the West these days. We all live in democratic countries. We enjoy the rule of law, a free press and a market economy that rewards initiative and at the same time, we fail to recognize how much autocratic countries stifle human freedom. [ ]
There is a strange tendency in the U.S. to hold Trump responsible for all evil. He certainly contributed to the division in American society, but he is more a symptom than the cause. If Republicans and Democrats are constantly at each others throats, we will not be able to solve our countrys most pressing problems or strengthen our response to adversaries.

ANOTHER COUP PLOTTER???
Read it again.
McMaster's right.
McMaster was DISLOYAL to Trump.
[Der Spiegel: Who is the greatest threat to the free world at the moment? Russia, China or Donald Trump?

Trump has put off stimulus negotiations until after the election.
I don’t know how to post a thread but I’m interested in people’s opinions.
He COULDNT give in on the 600 a week unemployment. And nancy wasn’t budging.
Still it might make an interesting thread.
Just mentioning it.
How embarrassing after all these years that i can’t put up a thread :)
Fine. What's wrong with what he's saying here?
Big globalist. Traitor to his country.
Look at his face. The man is insane.
More about what Der Spiegel was trying to get him to say.
But calling Trump a “symptom” of what the left is trying to do to the country is not right either.
I only read the excerpt you posted but not clear on your “barf alert”. I think McMaster states the situation accurately.
The Republicans in the Senate wouldn't go for it.
The cynic in me thinks many of them see a Democratic administration on the horizon and so want to pivot back to their fiscal responsibility talking points.
I’m surprised to hear McMaster say this. He is correct but has never been a friend or supporter of Donald Trump. There must be some other reason he put this on the table now...
If you ever get to see a recent movie called the outpost true story its very damning on McMaster and his leadership abilities so I dont care about anything he says.
Take a look at what Der Spiegel was trying to get him to say.
Also, McMaster is not correct that Trump is a “symptom” of what’s going wrong in the USA, not to mention that the notion of Republicans and Democrats working together is usually in the context of pushing the country further left.
Not this time.
This was not the only thing Nancy wanted stimulus for illegals, bailout money for state pensions, ballot harvesting legal in all states NO WAY!! SCREW HER!!
Oh and I forgot ALL Charter schools CLOSED!!
I read it as him saying there's tremendous division in the country over Trump - which is indisputable - but it's really over deeper issues and Trump's just the outlet.
Posted these response on wrong thread SORRY!!
