A man told his partner she would be leaving house his "in a box" when he held her hostage after he found out she had gone to see a male strip show.
Richard Badman, 50, denied falsely imprisoning his former partner Wendy Fry, 55, between November 6 and 7 last year at his home in Pontypool.
It was also claimed that the defendant punched Ms Fry, held a pillow over her face, held her down, and pointed a screwdriver at her and sprayed her in the face with CS gas.
A trial at Newport Crown Court, which concluded on Thursday, heard that Badman, of Penylan Road, Varteg, became "enraged" after he saw Facebook videos of a male strip show which Ms Fry had been tagged in. * In her evidence Ms Fry said she had told the defendant she was going for a meal with friends but did not tell him she was going to see the Forbidden Nights show at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran because she knew she would not be allowed to go if he knew.
During the course of the evening Badman made numerous phone calls and messages to Ms Fry and told her: “You dirty ***** off watching strippers” and “You're a dirty ***** and I don't want *** all to do with a liar”.
When Ms Fry got home at 11pm Badman arrived outside her home and told her to get in the car before taking her to his house.
When they arrived and were in the house he began assaulting Ms Fry in a vicious attack involving punching, strangling, and biting and which lasted all night and left her fearing for her life.
Giving evidence during the trial Ms Fry said: "He grabbed me by the throat and shouted at me. He was hitting me and ragging me around.
"I told him I wanted to go home but he pushed me upstairs and threw me down on the bed, tried to strangle me, and punched me and put a pillow over my head so I couldn't breathe. He bit me and on my face.
"At one point I told him: 'You're going too far, I can't breathe' and he told me: 'That's what I want'.
"He said: 'You're not listening, I am going to ****** kill you, you'll be going out of here in a box'."
The next day Badman's friend turned up at the house while Ms Fry stayed upstairs and when he left she told Badman she was going to ring her daughter to pick her up. He responded by saying: "No-one is ****** coming here, you're my hostage."
'Bully' husband subjected wife to 20 years of verbal and physical abuse and controlling behaviour The defendant then proceeded to hold Ms Fry on the sofa and held a screwdriver towards her neck before stabbing it in the laminated flooring.
The victim then made an attempt to escape from Badman's home and climbed through a living room window and headed to a neighbour's house for help but the defendant went after her and attempted to drag back into the house.
The police were called and Badman was arrested. He claimed in his police interview that Ms Fry was the one who sprayed him with a CS gas canister and he denied holding her hostage, saying she had gone to his house voluntarily.
In court Badman claimed he did not see Ms Fry on the evening of November 6 and picked her up the next day at 11am and brought her to the house.
He said: "She said she was going to make a cup of tea and I went downstairs. I said to her: 'You're always on your f*****g phone' and that's when she got the pepper spray from her bag and and sprayed me with it.
"I grabbed her hand, twisted it round, and it went in her face. My eyes were burning, my chest was on fire, and I nearly had a panic attack.
"When I got back in the room Wendy had her legs out of the window. When she was outside I went to help her but she said: 'Get the f*** from me'."
He denied assaulting Ms Fry or detaining her in his home but on Thursday a jury found him guilty of false imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and making threats to kill. The defendant was found not guilty of possessing a prohibited weapon.
Following the verdicts prosecutor Marian Lewis said Badman had two previous convictions for assault and had pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice before the trial after he sent a letter to an acquaintance of Ms Fry's in which he attempted to persuade her to drop the charges in a "threatening and intimidating manner".
Defence barrister Martha Smith-Higgins asked for sentencing to be adjourned so a pre-sentence report could be written due to Badman's condition of frontal lobe brain damage.
Addressing the defendant, Judge Daniel Williams said: "You have been convicted of serious offences and a report will assist in determining how long the prison sentence will be."
Badman was remanded in custody to appear for sentencing on September 21.
