I’m glad you’ve survived doing what you enjoy, and I’m sad that this girl didn’t, just on general principles.

Yes, I wish she had lived. I might have dated her at some point.

Beautiful girl....sad...her friends flocked to social media...she needed someone beside her helpless photog to tell her...”hey don’t go there, idiot!” Live by social media...die by social media. The new normal.

We're angry that this young woman died of stupid, just as I would be if it were one of my own children. Well, no. If it had been my child, I would have been much more angry and even near-suicidal.

Regarding my offspring, I have the possibility of fatal poor judgment priced in, so to speak. As each year passes with no lost limbs, felony records, or death by dumbth, we consider it a success.

[My “dangerous” habit is hiking solo in middle of winter. I’m talking 10+ miles. I’m pretty much the only one out there during those times. Should I slip and break my leg, I might never make it back to the trailhead and will freeze to death. I try to take care that this does not happen. But no guarantees.
I had a close call about 20 years ago when a snowstorm hit in the middle of my hike and I lost track of where I was. I eventually made it back to my car but that was a close call.]
Glad you made it out. Shouldn’t you think of bringing a sat phone in addition to your mobile with extra battery packs, just in case? The nice thing about current mobile phones is the ability to pinpoint your current GPS position. Of course, none of that helps if you’re attacked by wolves or cougars.

The deceased was described by a grieving relative as a smart and cheerful person who set goals and made them happen,"Smart" -- uh, no.
"Cheerful" -- probably was.
"Set goals" -- Yes, if your goal was to stand on the edge of a cliff and fall off.
"Made them happen" -- Yep. No doubt.

“pulchritude” is such a weird word. The word itself sounds so vile, so ugly, so nasty that I always have to look it up.

Sad. Easy to make fun of, but sad.
