Like death and taxes, Donald Trump will always be with us. He will likely win the 2020 election. After all, he has the advantage of the incumbency. Second, he has the advantage of time to hold countless riotous rallies with supporters who love that he “tells it like it is” -- the ruder, the cruder, the better. Third, he will wage a nasty, hate-filled campaign against his opponent, laced with lies, insults, innuendo, and demeaning nicknames. Fourth, once again, he will undoubtedly have the assistance of Russia. And we will be saying goodbye to democracy and hello to authoritarianism.
But even if he does lose, we will not be rid of him. He will claim that the election was rigged; he will cry voter fraud; he will demand a Justice Dept. investigation, which his newest lackey, A. G. William Barr, will be happy to conduct. Fox News will continue to support him and will give him a platform to air his grievances. This sham will go on and on because, petulant crybaby that he is, he will send endless tweets about the “injustice” that has been done to him.
My conclusion is that, win or lose, he will subject us to constant chaos, dysfunction and divisiveness. He will NEVER go away. We must prepare for many years of exhaustion-by-Trump.
