Reportedly, White House has firm preparations to keep the shutdown through the end of Feb.

Another big caravan, and the State of the Union, with all the lights and cameras shining on border security - the Dems worst issue.

They may twist some polls and spin some talking points, but this will define them in the eyes of many - they are being branded.

So that is one one ending. Dems won’t be able to shake off the reputation they earn.

I think that the end result on wall funding would have to be better than the $2.5 billion per year for two years, that VP Pence had negotiated last year, which the President rejected. I expect $5 billion, or it goes to emergency funding. (if it ends up over two years, i.e. 2.5/year, or $5 billion this year and nothing next, that would be decent funding, but would not finish the job).

About $5-6 billion per year is pretty much full funding for full speed border barrier building, technology, personnel hiring and added detention capacity. $5 billion per year for two years would seriously change the border situation, but the plan for complete operational control over the border is $5 billion for five years.

If he wins, he’ll be re-elected.

If it’s a draw it’ll be a squeeker, could end either way.

If he folds he’ll be a one-termer; the libs will appreciate NOTHING and will immediately began screaming to conservatives that he cucked.

His choice should be utterly clear to him.

Start going after Democrat friends and family government contracts. Audit them for fraud and set up a special counsel to look at them. The wall will get funded and the Democrats will all back down.

Trump and all the spineless repubs need to simply tweet out a list or all the poor dead Americans killed by the illegals.

Just keep on sending out the list. Eventually the media will report it. The rat party is cornered.

Don’t give in Mr Trump. Please.

Yeah, weaponize the IRS like Dick Nixon, that always works and never gets you impeached.

“end game” is going to be that someone will figure out Fed.gov still works with 20% fewer people

I’ve already “won”. I have not noticed a single damn thing different in my life with the shutdown, and am beginning to appreciate how little I need government.

The MSM is an echo chamber now. Trump supporters get their information from other places and know not to trust the alphabet networks.

Trump needs to pivot to turn this into an opportunity to downsize government. “We are going to look closely at what departments can be downsized or eliminated. This partial shutdown has made it clearer that cuts are needed.”

Various groups could adopt parks as they do now with roadways. Volunteers could handle trash or selling tickets. Sure there are enough vets willing to help out, for example, at the various war memorials.

Change this into a downsizing issue. Dems want do nothing federal jobs and as many federal workers as possible. They will cave.

Trump can veto any budget with the Uniparty GOPesters cave. If they cave.

Dems have more to lose from this but they think the media will lie enough to the American public to make Trump give up. Won’t happen.

The wall is the defining issue for 2020.

Trump should also not declare and emergency as that just allows Dems to block the wall through delaying litigation.

America wins IF Congress passes a bill that includes funding the wall and the President signs it into law. Just like the American form of government is supposed to work. Any other path means we all lose.

The Cheap Labor wing of the GOP will push to have Trump use the emergency powers. The wall will get tied up in court. "

Trump declares emergency and declares victory. Congress and Trump reopens government, the Rats declare victory. The courts overrule Trump. Rats sustain victory.

If he invokes an emergency order Dems will oppose it in court. He will then refuse to sign a bill to reopen the gov thereby proving the Democrats oppose securing the border. Or something like that.

Excellent points.

In the past, Republicans caved in because they wanted to be liked. They were scared of the big, bad media. They also believed, wrongly, that being "reasonable" would win them friends and voters.

Trump has undoubtedly tried to work with the House Republicans...and they rarely gave him the legislation he needed/wanted. Many of those RINO/NeverTrump folk are gone, but enough remain where Trump undoubtedly is scarred and knows better to not cave in to them.

Maybe Trump will negiatiate with Dems and hope they will behave better than Repubs. Hahahahaha....ok, seriously, Trump won't play with Chucky or Nancy. They give him nothing.

Trump likely realizes this is a YUGE re-election issue, his "read my lips" moment. If he holds firm, his base will LOVE him and statists, well, they were never going to love him anyway. Utilities etc will undoubtedly help federal workers (there are plenty of stories along these lines already....of course the utilities will get vilified by the House later so no good deed goes unpunished) and the pain won't be quite as bad as the bogeymen will make it out to be.

And then the DEMS will be in uncharted territory where THEY will start getting heat from policy wonks like Cher. After all, it's not like they care about the people...they care about POWER. Once they realize they're on the losing side of the issue, Trump will promote the $5bn as a jobs package and everyone will start to peel off, one by one.

Trump either stays the course or loses re-election. Everyone knows that..all we have to do is watch how it plays out.

A Liberal friend of of mine was blaming the Republicans. So I said he must like dead ranchers at the border and the coyoties raping the migrant women. He looked at me and said “What??”.

And I said, yeah and the coyoties are bringing opiods and heroin with them and asked him if he liked that too.

He quickly changed the subject.

Yea..I don’t think the emergency thing will work. Maybe Trump will think of something that will work. He does seem to be really smart.

If the president eventually signs a bill that does not appropriate the border security that he has requested (e.g., goes another route for this) then make sure that that bill does not contain elements that the leftists want that also contribute to the national debt. On principle alone.
