Actually, since this permits ANOTHER vote on the budget just before the election, it puts pressure on the dems, because they will face these issues right before the voters go to the polls.
And the bill permits Trump to use money at his discretion — use it or not; and use it for the purposes he designates.
(IE, he can use part of the military budget to build part of the wall.)

Exactly. It is just a six month bill and clearly not the end of the country and/or the President. President Trump and Larry Kudlow just need to present their budget to Congress at the beginning of September. That let's them define the terms of the next debate and the Dems will have to go on record opposing it and showing their true colors right before the election.

We all would have liked to see the political fight continue over this budget and we have had many on this forum who are not really saavy about certain issues spout off with not really having all the facts. The military is in real serious trouble and needs this money as we are slowly but surely coming out of all the draconian measures that traitor OBuggery out on our defense community. I am a member of the defense community and contacted my Congressman about this bill who is very fiscally conservative and normally would have voted no on something like this. Most of this bill (60%+) was DoD related and very important to our national security. He sent me a very well written letter about why he had to support it. I know quite a bit about our defense needs but he explained things to me that I did not know about but in my professional opinion which we cannot ignore nor have delay from a national security perspective. It had to go through immediately and there was no political leeway to fight this further because the risks to military readiness were falling into the “red” areas. It is also important to note that this is an Omnibus bill and not a budget therefore the President can do as Obama did and not even spend the money on these extra pork projects.
It is a defeat if the voting base thinks it is. Which they (and I) do until it is clearly demonstrated that it is a victory.

Right. This was an authorization to spend a ton of money, with a list of SUGGESTIONS as to how it might be spent. Nothing is binding; and it’s at Trump’s discretion. Some folks are saying he actually snookered the ‘rats. 3D chess, anyone?

As you point out, he can reach out to the nation in his own style and in various ways on specific issues. He can highlight the many ways in which the leftist dems and RINO practices do not serve American principles.
Your point regarding his control over the manner in which the massive amount of funds are spent, or not spent, may prove among other wonderful things, to stuff a sock in Schumer's mouth.
Further, what appears to have been, and likely continues to be an attempted not-so-soft soft coup (illegal by original definition) may accelerate the need and enthusiasm for an ArtV Convention.
