It was not enough just to kill Sam Hose. No, they had to make souvenirs out of him.
Hose was an African-American man lynched by a mob of some 2,000 white women and men in 1899 near the town of Newnan, Ga. They did all the usual things. They stabbed him, castrated him, skinned his face, mutilated him, burned him alive.
Then they parceled out pieces of his body.
You could buy a small fragment of his bones for a quarter. A piece of his liver, “crisply cooked,” would set you back a dime. The great African-American scholar, W.E.B. DuBois, reported that Hose’s knuckles were for sale in a grocer’s window in Atlanta.
No, it wasn’t enough just to kill Sam Hose. People needed mementos of the act.
Apparently, it wasn’t enough just to kill Trayvon Martin, either...

Born in Macon, Hose had moved to Atlanta and then Newnan in search of work. Here he found employment with Alfred Cranford a wealthy local white resident.
As the story goes after more than a year a dispute arose over money owed to Hose by Cranford. Cranford secured a gun, became enraged at Mr. Hose and threatened him. Hose took an ax and threw it at Cranford and ran. Papers blared the details of the “murder,” and the area was combed looking for Sam Hose.
By his own admission, Hose knew he had hit Cranford with the ax but did not know he had killed the man until several days later.
Then came the charge of rape. Then a story came out that Mrs. Cranford claimed that her husband’s assailant had raped her as her husband lay dying.

If Ashtrayvon’s momma was making bank off him, Leonard “The” Pitts would be nodding his bobblehead in support. Instead he makes an overheated comparison to a lynching from 120 years ago. I don’t see anyone selling pieces of Trayvon (although that would make a good name for an R&B album). Then again, it’s illegal to trade in toxic waste.

Watched a report on WTVD out of Raleigh NC this morning and the bubble headed bleach blonde had to report it as the gun Zman used to shoot UNARMED Travon Martin. Wasn’t it NBC that edited the 911 call to paint Zim as a racist? Same model, different network.
Leonard Pitts is equating an object lawfully owned by Zimmermann with pieces of Sam Hose’s body. That is an outrageous lie in and of itself.
The further fact that Pitts believes that Trayvon was murdered in cold blood identifies Pitts as a delusional thinker, without honor and without intelligence. The alternative is that he knows it’s a lie, which makes him complicit in trying to stage a lynching of George Zimmermann.
Well I have it on very good evidence that stores in Trayvons hometown sell Skittles and Arizona Watermelon Punch dont those count as souviniers?
And the story NEVER made National News....squelched by the Lamestream Press.....They cannot suffer enuf to even the score..JMHO.....
