How should I talk about Religion with my Jehovah Witness sister?

I love my slightly older sister but I think/know she's gone nuts with her adherence to the Jehovah's Witnesses.

While I rarely talk or see her, we are deeply connected, most objective people would say we are estranged. I can't go that far. Regardless of circumstance, we have always been able to connect.

She has always been an "All or nothing" person, believing virtually anything and everything. While in school she excelled in math and computer programing but ran off to the Colorado Mountains to be a Ski Bunny and married my best friend. Had kids, got divorced and is now a Grandmother. She still spends hours on end standing on street corners handing out tracts for the Jehovah's Witnesses.

While I consider myself a Christian, I can't quote a single passage from the bible. I've read it, I understand it and I have accepted Christ as my Savior.

My Sister is coming to visit next week.

In a certain sense I want to undermine what I think is a cult.

At the same time I need to be respectful.

I have the feeling that any discussion that has me quoting passage's from the bible will be fruitless. There is no way I can win in a back and forth battle.

I don't know how I should handle this and I'm seeking advice.

Find out WHY headquarters does NOT want their members to do any research of their own.

WHY; if it was good enough for the Bereans; it is NOT looked on with favor by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.

In being “witnessed to” once, I turned to the man at my door and asked, “I believe that Jesus died for my sins, that His resurrection is proof that God is satisfied with His death, that He, being the Son of God is seated at the Father’s right hand and that He has gone to prepare a place for me that where He is, there will I be also and that by believing in Him, I have life through His name. If you have something better to offer me than that, tell me what it is.”

The conversation pretty much ended right there. Hopefully, the “witness” took from my testimony something that enabled him to open his eyes. But that is the work of the Holy Spirit. I am simply called to sow seed.

Ask her to think about belonging to a religion which sprung up so recently. For me, that would be very unsettling. The thought that after.thousands of years , only now, and only us truly understand God.

Correct; but what we're looking for is an EFFECTIVE way to do that.

Since jehovah’s witnesses do not believe Jesus is One with the Father(they deny the Trinity doctrine), you can ask how it is that Jesus can say he is the great “I AM” in John 8:58. the same “I AM” that the Father used in speaking to Moses at the burning bush.

You ask them when did Jehovah G-d die and then resurrected? ?

Open THEIR bible to Genesis 1:26.

Ask them just WHO is the US and OUR the words speak of.

They'll say God the Father and an angel.

Then show them; again from their own book;

Ask: Who is this him?

Your sister thinks she knows a lot about the Bible, because they have drilled her in it. But her Bible translation is very poor, and deliberately wrong in many places.

Golly; just like a MORMON!

Does she need intervention? Why no tlet her carry out her life, her beliefs as she sees fit? Anyway, is it really any of your business what your sister chooses to believe in?

It amazes me that SO many in this thread are so willing to just abandon this sister to her eventual fate.

The problem is that most “Christians” can’t articulate and defend their faith let alone challenge another.

They do NOT...

...study to show themselves approved of RIGHTLY dividing the Word of GOD.
