It is hard to admit that one of the most cartoonish and self-aggrandizing figures in recent political memory actually could have been a contender at one time, but I am now willing to cede that point.
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin actually could have been, at the very least, a respected political figure over the course of the last decade, but she has squandered any capital or potential she may have had by being a rudderless buffoon.
The only reason this comes to light again is because Palin is polling ahead of two other candidates for a potential open Senate seat in 2014.
Mind you this was a sample of 379 Alaska Republicans taken during the first week of this month, but the prospect of Palin being a member of the Senate for six years is enough to make one consider a move to Nova Scotia.
At one time Palin was a somewhat savvy, fairly competent Governor of Alaska. What made her stand out and got her on the political map was facing down oil and natural gas conglomerates in her home state and beating them.
In Alaska, beating that corporate duo is one step short of taking control of a city back from the mob. Oil taxes supply almost 90 percent of the general revenue in the state, so you know oil companies have what can conservatively be called a passing interest in how government is run.
The governor, who would soon become more famous for being geographically challenged and for her looks, somehow passed a tax increase on oil revenue and while other states floundered, Alaska built up a $12 billion surplus.
But 18 months before the end of her first term and only nine months after she helped torpedo John McCains Presidential aspirations....

I'd wager she's better informed than most, including the author of this piece. And she knows a hell of a lot more about her home state, which is a hell of a lot bigger than any of the others.
Bleep you if you think that the election wasn’t Hayworth’s to win or lose, because it was. Palin can’t force or order people to vote for McPain, you know.
This author surely was referring to Al Franken?
Thank you, 59 posts and no Sarah picture...we’re slacking!
I think that is symptomatic of what a $#@! week it was for our country. Glad to rectify that slack.
Sarah (aka Governor Palin) has been invited to speak at the high school graduation ceremony in Republic, Washington, and has accepted. She specified that she will travel at her own expense.
The day after, we couldn't keep enough lawn signs in stock and there was maybe 1 or 2 phone lines available (out of 18) without a volunteer to make calls.
She showed up for a 6 a.m. airport rally on 24 hours notice and every available ticket was gone within hours of the announcement.
Joe Biden showed up for a noon day rally at the local high school gym and they could not give away tickets with two weeks notice.
McCain didn't even both coming to SW Pennsylvania. We were one of the few places in the country where the GOP vote actually improved over 2004.
And that is why they took her out, she scared the ever-loving daylights out of them. Still does.
She boosted McCain and she has a large following to this day. Sarah energizes people as few can.
McCain was behind, then Sarah joined the ticket. In short order, they were ahead. Then stupid McCain went back to DC, suspended the campaign for a bit, and voted for TARP, and the campaign sunk from there.
Joe Biden thinks Benghazi is something you rub on sore muscles.
O one of the guys who stood up for Chuck.
Joe Biden thinks Benghazi is something you rub on sore muscles.
Or one of the guys who stood up for Chuck.
Exactly. Stupid Juan fell right into the ‘RATS’ trap.
If Sarah Runs, she will win, if she wins she will galvanize the US Senate into a force for freedom. She might well be the one thing that brings the GOP back into power. Imagine her as Speaker? Imagine her with Rand, Lee, Cruz, and Rubio? Imagine her talking to Obama’s minions? It would be music to my old conservatives ears.
It would be music to mine as well!
Norm Lenhart: You rat bastard; I read your post 42 and laughed so hard I fell out of my damn chair, almost scared the crap out of my dogs. Even with the aches and pains I will have in the morning, you made my day.
Still laughing so hard I can’t hardly type this.
“...at the high school graduation ceremony in Republic, Washington, and has accepted.”
The graduating class is 27 kids IIRC! The entire town is about 1000.
I can’t imagine why they keep writing so many articles on how irrelevant Governor Sarah Palin is.
