My son, whose movie reviews are generally limited to expressions like, “it was okay.” or “ Meh,” actually raved about it. He is a solid, Christian conservative who doesn’t praise films lightly. He said it was not a Lincoln-worship piece—raising the issue of suspending habeus corpus, forcing votes, corrupting his political enemies to achieve a majority, etc. Apparently it paints him as a pragmatist over everything else, still slightly left in its conclusions, but a good flick overall.

I plan on seeing it.

Day-Lewis is one of those rarist of birds: a real actor. His range is spooky profound. “My Left Foot” to “Last of the Mohicans” to the pic with DeCaprio and the one about the Irish guys.

I saw “Skyfall” because, well, it IS Bond. This is a whole ‘nuther level of wanting to see something, though.

The History Channel played its long piece on Lincoln the other night. I’d forgotten about him having premonitions. I didn’t know that for some reason, he told his guard to take the night off at the Ford Theater, so the guy wasn’t there.
