CS Lewis said that he felt that atheists maybe closer to God than many others who never take a position either way. Atheists at least adhere to reason and reason is a step in God’s direction.
Maybe, like Ivan Ilych, he turned to the Lord in the last days or hours.
Always admired someone who was intellectually honest and not hypocritical. He had no problem criticizing people like Maher who bash Christianity but kowtow to Islam.Never quite understood his problem with Mother Theresa. I absolutely agree with this. The irony is that, I felt, Hitchens talked about God more than any writer or political commentator I knew.
I always felt Revelations 3:15-16 has some relevance to this
"'I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!
Anyway, he's right. The real enemies of the Christian faith are not atheists, or new-agers, or even muslims, they are apathy, nominalism and agnosticism.
