There was an article a few days ago that opined he may have been dropping his opposition to the existence of God.
While - by my memory - it was based on some weak evidence, I certainly hope and pray that was true, and he gets unified with our Creator off in His existence outside of time.

I kinda liked him in a way. He had some bad things to say about Bob Hope after he died but one thing I liked about him was that he was not one of these people who trashed christian religion but turned to jello when trashing other religions. I can respect that intellectual consistency. Alot of people out there will trash christianity but grow strangely silent when it comes to, for example, Islam. I remember he trashed the Bill Maher audience on his show. I thought that was great.

Sorry to hear that. Didn’t agree with his politics much, but I admired his integrity.
RIP.

Well, he isn’t an atheist anymore...

Strange that he never considered the possibility that his profound intellect had it basis in something other than himself or nothing at all.
His insights into the conditions of this world will be missed. His insights into the world to come.....not so much.

Christopher Hitchens was not impressed with Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis: He wrote:
“To describe [the thesis] as hard to read would be a mistake; the thesis cannot be ‘read’ at all, in the strict sense of the verb. This is because it wasn’t written in any known language.”
Brilliant writing.

Those that trash the recently deceased(unless they were truly evil people) are below whale shit, IMO.

I, too, hope he found a glorious, glorious surprise. Heard an interview with him last Winter, adamantly holding to his atheistic views. He was a very complex person, gifted in so many ways. May his family find comfort in his passing.

Im sure I join many in hoping he is in for a glorious, glorious surprise.Eternity holds no surprises. One either curses God or humbly accepts His free gift of eternal life. Like many on FR, I've been holding out hope that Chris, particularly in light of his illness, would see the light. I see no evidence of his repentance, but who among us can know his final thoughts?
Here's hoping we'll one day encounter a redeemed Christopher Hitchens in eternity....

Hitchens was confrontational, opinionated and he enjoyed upsetting traditional values and beliefs. He understood the dangerous nature of Islam and supported Bush in the WOT. Which is more then can be said for many lefties. In recent years Hitcehns shtick became tedious and boring. Still, RIP.

We are all poorer for his passing. I didn’t always agree with his writings, but he did have a talent for the written word. I hope he found peace.
