I'd never thought I'd see the day when conservatives fully embrace affirmative action. The myopic and destructive support for Cain for President is TOTALLY based on the simple fact that he's an articulate black man and self-made businessman, so conservatives can say, "See! See! We're not racists, we love black guys too!" But so was bland boring white guy John Cox, a businessman who ran for President in 2008, also without having zero experience in elective office. So where was the support for him? Please spare me the inevitable BS about how you'd rather support a businessman (or use the old pick names out of the telephone analogy) than "career politicians." I am not talking about lifelong bureaucrats serving in departments or agencies, I am clearly talking about elective office. Herman Cain has ZIPPO, NADA, ZERO experience in public office and the simple fact of the matter is that in the modern political era, the American people has overwhelmingly looked to state executives (Governors), retired or military Commanders, or Senators who still had some lower-level executive or business experience for President. Now, if Cain would have won his Senate race in 2004 or at least had been Mayor of Atlanta and then won a Congressional seat and then ran for the Presidency, then this vanity post would be moot and I would be a likely supporter (although his age would have been an issue). I have no problems with Herman Cain, I admire his background, his intelligence, his business acumen, but right now to support him for the Presidency would be a huge mistake. Number of factors why Cain shouldn't run and he if does, he shouldn't be supported: AGE: Herman Cain is 65 years old. The GOP has a stable of younger, more dynamic stars on the rise that refutes the narrative that they're not the same-old party of old guys. It's time for a new generation of leaders, and Cain was needed 10 years ago. POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: No businessman, Congresscritter, and only 2 Senators in the modern era have ever won the White House. It is EXTREMELY (no pun intended) difficult for a businessman off the streets to run for President because the perception is that the American people have always supported someone who at least won elective office first. Herman Cain has never held elective office and that makes him a non-starter. MEDIA SPOTLIGHT: Look, let's get serious folks. Herman Cain is not photo-genic, and you know what I mean. The liberal media and entertainment industry will reduce him to a caricature and completely ignore the issues, all the while spotlighting the youthfulness of Obama. Herman Cain is not electable folks. That's not to say he doesn't have a role in the election. He should surely be a spokesman for the GOP or serve on some type of conservative outreach panel talking to inner-city blacks about how destructive liberal policies are, or he should have even been GOP Chairman instead of the disastrous Steele. All Cain will do is split the conservative vote and we get another RINO for the GOP nominee.
EEE, while I agree that I have almost as good of a chance at winning as Cain does — and I’m not running — it is rather presumptuous to tell other FReepers who they should support and to make aspersions onto their motives for doing so.
It’s one thing if we’re talking about someone who is decidedly no conservative, such as Romney or the continuing slide into battiness that is Newt Gingrich. It’s another to tear into someone who may be backing a losing campaign but at least for someone who is conservative.
When the race is underway in earnest, that may be a time to call for coalescing around a single candidate, but for now, there are no guarantees as to who will even run, so perhaps delaying the infighting is in order.
“I’d never thought I’d see the day when conservatives fully embrace affirmative action.”
Up yours.
And you are compairing running Pizza palors equal to that of running Washingtons huge economic dealings? Not to mention world trade???? Cain does not have the political backing of the movers and shakers he will need to win this and then steer the ship he'll be sailing. It's like asking someone whose accustomed to Captaining a fleet of fishing boats to that of overseeing the US Navy in the midst of war. Not going to work.
Wellll,
#1 - Obama has no experience and that’s been one of the criticisms of him from the right.
#2 - Since Cain has not held elected office and doesn’t have any inside knowledge of how DC works, he would be at the mercies of those he hires to be his staff. Those old bulls in the Senate and the House know how to pull the levers of power. Someone like Cain, with no infrastructure of his own, would be at a significant disadvantage. Pile onto that the negative media that would be howling at his heels and we would have a major debacle.
#3 - I don’t like the current options being offered in the GOP. I am trying to believe that Reince Priebus will do right by us in the long run.
You mean like quitting midway through?
*snicker*
Palinbots hate when you bring that up.
EEE:
I have always liked your posts but your first paragraph is idiotic and presumptuous.
The rest of the post has merit but you neutered yourself with your charge that Cain is a mere title IX actor and an expression of republican “white guilt” that would be assuaged by electing a black man to the presidency.
We previously tried to get Colin Powell, Condi and JC Watts to run for the presidency. Not because they were black but because we felt they could be a vessel of our ideals and act accordingly.
LOL. Are you really going to bring up this pathetic weak tea of a liberal meme?
Palin still was elected (to 3 different offices I might add) and still ran a business. She has the perfect blend of private/public experience and that's far more than what Cain has.
There isn’t a single GOP contender who would get much of the youth vote.
Palin sure as hell can’t. Trump was probably the best able to do that believe it or not.
Sure they are. Where was Cain during the Obamacare debate, cap and trade? Thought so.
He is the only candidate of the declared bunch who actually has some balls and speaks a real Conservative message. It is pretty disgusting you are accusing FReepers of being racist.
Until now I never heard Cain speak out during the 2 years that Obama was destroying this country. Some balls. Do you need a microscope?
I don’t think it’s a fair comparison between Palin and Cain. She has served politically and in Gov. offices... and certainly knows the dynamics of that. Cain only understands, by experience, from a small businemans experience which is simply not even close.
As for why we are where we are at...there’s a long history of both parties kicking the can down the road and dirty politics...it’s the nature of the beast. If you think getting an inexpereinced player into Washington is going to change that then your head isn’t quite in the right place in understanding the place our nation is in today as opposed to that of the past...when an otherwise inexpereinced player might have a chance and did win.
If we base our decisions on what the liberal media thinks we might as well just quit having elections because all they approve of is a democrat lite.IMHO they will do that to any republican so to base our decisions on what migth be done is silly.
Number two is the bigger.
Unfortunately, “fixing” item two usually turns the candidate into Romney, Gingrich, McCain or Dole.
Your mistaken about Palin...who has become rather an icon to young woman who have shown us to come out in droves supporting her. However I don’t think her daughter has been helpful in that respect...rather seems to have moved some away from Palin of recent.
Acccording to what I just heard on the radio, with the Huckster and Trump declining, about a 1/3 of the Repub vote is up for grabs.
Time for a true Conservative to step forward and all this bickering on OUR side to end.
The people at her book signings were younger adults and conservative college types. More than any other candidate, Palin can neutralize the advantage Obama has with young people.
Well Sarah is my favorite but since she hasn’t declared yet Cain is a close second. At this point IMHO even Paul would be much better than the one we having in the WH now!
You are an offensive prick today.
AM go ahead and ZOT me but this Ahole is acting out some drug induced fantasy and telling us our support of Cain is our desire to “get one to” as far as affirmative action goes.
WTF is your problem? We are looking at the content of each candidates character.
You, my friend, are stuck in a pre 1960’s era.
Now go pound sand.
“I want someone who has at least served in some capacity in elective office, and no one has ever won the WH in the modern era without at least having been elected to a lower-level first.”
LMAO! Thanks for the laugh!
YOU: “I’m not asking for “experienced” or “career” politicians. I want someone who has at least served in some capacity in elective office”
REPLY: Okay so you don’t call THAT political “experience” So what do you call it and how is that different from “experienced” ? You sound just like a politician of pete sakes. Love your double talk. It’s priceless! LOL!
YOU: “no one has ever won the WH in the modern era without at least having been elected to a lower-level first.”
REPLY AGAIN: And like I wrote before.... Look at how well that has worked out for us! Our nation is going to hell in a hand basket and you want to elect another dumb schmuck because you think doing same thing over and over again will give us a different result. I call that insanity.
YOU: “You guys clearly aren’t getting it.”
REPLY: No it’s people like you that do not get it. How many times do you have to burn your hand on the stove before you learn your lesson?
I don't support him, but I find he has a much better clue and better control of his mouth than just about all the other candidates with elective experience. What good has experience done for Mitt, Newt, and RuPaul?
But you raising the issue about race with Cain is pretty loathesome, quite frankly.
