Many people die every day, how many die doing something they absolutely LOVE? Brooke Ann did. I'm sure her adrenaline was pumping just before she got on that bull. I'm sure there was a part of her that thought "this is the one I'm going to make 8 seconds on". She smelled the bull, felt his power underneath her and was loving every minute of it. Would it have been easier, more PC or less heartbreaking if she'd been killed in a car wreck on the way home? No.

Yeah, the bulls are having a great time, too.
Yet these things will happen. However, as a parent who takes my kids ATVing, my nine year old daughter shooting or riding on a motorcycle with me, I find it far better to teach my children how to manage and live with risk, enjoy the freedoms they have, spend time together as a family and learn about substantive things than live in a parallel universe and expose themselves to the plethora of risks that are trivialized and advertised by our modern pop and media culture on MTV or elsewhere.
No one seems to excited nowadays about 1/4 of the youth having herpes. 1/3 of all 16 year old girls having had sex, 41% of all pregnancies in NYC ending in an abortion. A 20% HIV/AIDS rate among homosexual men isn't a big topic of discussion in the media. There are a lot of things that don't seem to be all that significant when it comes to safety, health, or so called modern values, but my guns, ATVs, us going Jet Skiing, hunting, etc. sure seem to be in the cross hairs of those safety minded and green folk. There are risks in a lot of activities, but some are simply singled out while others become taboo to criticism. I can accept the risk I expose my family and kids to when engaging in these activities because the benefit is high and the cost which includes the risk is fairly low in reality. It is unfortunate that these things happen, it would be even more unfortunate if they are exploited to push some bogus agenda. Kids growing up like this usually are part of a tight nit nurturing family, learn about things most kids have no clue about, are far more mature and self disciplined and ahead of their peers even academically. Yes, tragedies happen, the unlikely will eventually happen to someone, somewhere, at some point.
I'm sure many would consider me retarded, deluded, a throwback, etc for believing its just foolish for a 16 year old girl, no matter how talented, to attempt to ride a 1800 pound raging bull.
And I'm OK with it. Thats just the way things are these days.
Why yes the last survey indicated so.
I love rodeo. Have nothign against it. But I don’t remember bullriding as being a rodeo sport that girls took part in. So my hesitation of saying it is just wonderful she was a bull rider is not anti rodeo it is just maybe, just maybe girls are not suited for some aspects of the sport.
adtually the bulls are not ‘mean’, they are just really uncomfortable because of the strap pulling their nut sack up against their belly. Put a human on their back and that adds to it. They aren’t really mad, just irritated. Moments later they are done for the day and happily loafing around eating hay and cube. A rodeo bull has it made in the shade...
You wanna see mean? Try walking up to a newborn calf and see how momma acts...
Flame, I did not flame you, but your position is obvious. That 17 year old had more soul in her little finger that you will ever know. Now get off her case.
Like the song says, “Ya gotta want to get off bad enough to get on.”
God said we had dominion over the animals that settles it!
But that is the whole point, this has been going on since the 1800’s in this country. It’s not a feminista thing, it’s a culture. It’s Americana. I grew up around this culture, we have a rodeo in my county that’s been here for decades. I get the why’s and the what for’s of it.
Not every teenage girl rides a bull but teenage girls have done it for years. One can’t be a throwback to think this isn’t appropriate, because it’s been going on before my great-grandmother was born and done by countless teenage girls over the decades. I’m not going to presume to have the wisdom of an elder when my elders were doing this stuff. That’s my what I’m trying to say here.
You must have me confused with someone else - stupid belligerent jerks often have problems keeping straight who said what
A King has dominion over his subjects. A good king cares for the health and well being of his subjects while he avails himself of their talents and abilities.
A person has dominion over animals. A good person cares for the health and well being of animals while he avails himself of their talents and abilities.
Sick demented individuals often have justified their actions by utilizing an expansive view of Biblical passages, as such your position has a long and reprehensible history.
You need to over look the animal rights whack jobs, they are like the union creeps only show up for one subject.

It hasn’t been an organized part of the Rodeo Circuit but it is getting more interest among some of the women.
This particular ride was classified as an exibition ride in one of the other articles I read. Her parents had to sign a waiver for her to ride. I don’t think you’ll find female bull riding as a sanctioned event in any high school rodeo event/circuit.
For clarification. I’m an Independent and the writer has said in more than one article that she is a conservative republican.
To say that this article was some how sexual in any matter is just wrong. I wouldn’t post an article like that. IF people took time to read the article instead of taking a sentence here or there, it might make a difference.
If you haven’t been around livestock or especially rodeo livestock, you are not going to understand it. You are not going to understand that it’s 8 seconds of work for the bull and then it’s back to hay and resting. You are not going to know that they are worth big bucks and are WELL taken care of. The weight of that girl on his back probably felt like a fly. She in no way hurt the bull by attempting to ride him!
“She smelled the bull, felt his power underneath her and was loving every minute of it. Would it have been easier, more PC or less heartbreaking if she’d been killed in a car wreck on the way home? No.” Ever been to a rodeo? Ever seen the rider towering on the gate over the animal? Then slip on their back? This is probably very close to what she was experiencing.
I do not for one minute think that this had any sexual meaning. Perverted? Everyone in the source articles always commented on how much she loved bull riding, how it was her passion, her dream. Once again, if you haven’t had your dog, horse, goat etc. in close proximity to your nose, you’re not going to get this. She and many others have a love for animals that most on here seem to not be aware of. Maybe it’s weird for people who live in town to understand. To me, its a part of life. Every animal has its own unique smell. My favorite is horse.
Danger is everywhere, do we just quit living?
Wow! That sounds wonderful and fun. I may try that with my dog.
Getting in a car accident does not equate to a 16 year old girl getting on 1200-odd pounds of fury. Regardless of having "love" for it, it's stupid.
I suppose theres good reasons for that that have nothing to do with sexism. And because I agree doesn't make me a bad guy. Thats my only point.
