Thanks to the Obama economic failure, this would be a Republican surge year regardless. In most races across the country, the scorned Independents broke for republicans giving them the margin of victory.
Haley and Toomey I'll credit to the Tea Party. Miller is still up in the air.
Past that, looking at the other big Tea Party races:
Rubio won not because of the Tea Party but thanks to the selfishness of Charlie Crist splitting the dem vote. Angle lost to the most unpopular dem senator in the nation, a man who COULDN'T win. Paladino was a humiliating disaster. Rove was absolutely correct: O'Donnell was hopeless, throwing away a senate seat Castle would have almost certainly won.
Not to mention the Hayworth and Devore failures in the primaries.
Overall, the losses substantially outweigh the wins.
Not saying the Tea Party is useless, I don't think it is at all. But dialing down the fantasy it will hereafter control the political dialogue and set the agenda may be a good idea. Just who can throw the most red meat to the base isn't enough.

The fail is strong with this one.
The fail is strong with this one.
I agree.
Look, pal, the Tea Party is the antidote to RINOism! We don’t need no steenking RINOs!! Not now, not ever!! RINOs got us into this mess and getting rid of the RINOs will get us out of it!!
It’s open season on RINOs from this day forward until election day 2012!! And beyond!! No bag limit!!
Somebody open a can of RINO BEGONE!!
I think we have an inebriated OP here, possibly passed out now.
How many of the 55 or 60 house seats did they back? I did not want the senate.
>>> I think some of the Tea Party people will not get the message. It is okay to support the Conservative candidate but in some areas of the country a strict Conservative is not going to win
Well one out of 70 is not too bad considering how high strung people are tonight. :)
Bill Buckley had it exactly right. Vote for the most conservative choice - who can actually win.
>>> shaddup...
I say what I think. I always have here. I have never dialed it up and I’ve never dialed it down. Sometimes that’s popular and sometimes it isn’t. I can live with it either way.
It’s what we do. Isn’t it ?
>>> You seem to leave out the Ruling Class nominees in your not so well thought out vanity post. Linda McMahon, CT, lost.
That’s almost funny, calling an executive in a fixed wrestling show a “ruling class nominee”. If she had won I’d have put her with Haley and Toomey in the Tea Party wins. She came close, it was a very good try. Like California and Delaware, Connecticut is just a tough nut.
Yeah add this concern troll to the list.
The Tea Party-oriented precincts here in the Illinois suburbs organized and delivered 50-60% turnouts in many precincts in key areas that delivered the race for many of our statewide candidates.
I saw it with my own eyes as I pollwatched out in the NW suburbs tonight and monitored vote tallies and counted the number of GOP delivered votes.
Fine. Say what you feel. Don’t ignore the fact that NO PARTY wins every election, no matter who they put up.
I celebrate the victories, mourn the losses and look forward to 2012 to throw some more bums out.
And as I said elsewhere tonight..
The birth of the Tea Party, it's platform, lighting a fire under the average non political person, and the over growing momentum, is why Conservatives and Republicans won tonight!
The average patriotic American got off their sofas, worked for candidates and voted in droves!
This happened not because of republicans, but because of energy of the Tea Party movement.
Exactly. Imagine if the GOP got behind candidates like Miller instead of Princess Lisa. So pissed off at Boehner right now.
He did it by running a VERY aggressive ground game at the precinct level with a very enthusiastic and motivated bunch of volunteer Tea Partiers doing countless HOURS of phone banking, walking precincts, and all of this on a shoe-string budget.
Seems that you take Republican victory to another new high...heh. I would guess that if the Republicans won all, the Country would not only be saved, but would glow into the night...
You sir, have a problem when looking at the future - both realistically and politically. You have lost all perception of reality when you think that Republicans can and will save the country. They are just as unsavory as the Dems, just maybe at a different perspective. Our future does NOT rest with Republicans...and certainly NOT the Democrats. It rests with you!
If you continue to think that a particular party is going to be your Savior, you are doomed to failure.
Both parties are looking for power and control... Both are performing against the Constitution (if taken literally). You have to continue to choose between the two (at least for now - the Tea Party is lurking) and that seems to confuse most people.
If things don’t change dramatically in the next few years, it won’t matter anyway...
It depends on the individual recognizing the problems and understanding what the solution is before things will change.
The Tea Party is what is giving the power back to “ THE PEOPLE “ then, the government having the power.
