Thanks to the Obama economic failure, this would be a Republican surge year regardless. In most races across the country, the scorned Independents broke for republicans giving them the margin of victory.
Haley and Toomey I'll credit to the Tea Party. Miller is still up in the air.
Past that, looking at the other big Tea Party races:
Rubio won not because of the Tea Party but thanks to the selfishness of Charlie Crist splitting the dem vote. Angle lost to the most unpopular dem senator in the nation, a man who COULDN'T win. Paladino was a humiliating disaster. Rove was absolutely correct: O'Donnell was hopeless, throwing away a senate seat Castle would have almost certainly won.
Not to mention the Hayworth and Devore failures in the primaries.
Overall, the losses substantially outweigh the wins.
Not saying the Tea Party is useless, I don't think it is at all. But dialing down the fantasy it will hereafter control the political dialogue and set the agenda may be a good idea. Just who can throw the most red meat to the base isn't enough.
Oh for cripe’s sake.
Your concern is duly noted.
shaddup...
Karl Rove, is that you?
I think you have it backwards. The Republicans hurt the Tea Party candidates. You have the establishment Republicans to blame.
What about all of the Tea Party people who also voted for the establishment GOP candidates today at the polls?
I think in the senate, you might be right. It wasn’t a great night for the tea party.
Although how can anyone really complain about 6-8 pickups? I never thought we we going to win the senate, we had to have drawn the inside straight.
But the house, governorship, state houses, is another story.
Overall it was still a great night for the tea party.
IBTZ
That is absurd. We have a massively more conservative Senate than I have seen in my lifetime, a huge house majority and governor wins throughout the country. We knocked out feingold with a guy who never ran for anything in his life. This was almost entirely due to the grassroots movement.
IBTZ and good night.
Ignore him. The mental institution is missing a patient.
Go away.
The Senate Majority Leader is an underdog? Okay- zero credibility. Done with you.
STFU.
Anyone checking this idiot’s posting history will see he is a refugee from some leftist cesspool.
More inane and insane babbling from an establishment Republican.
Your win would be nowhere as close as it is without the Tea Partiers.
What a loser!
The wins in the general were all gravy.
And any Republican who wants to get all limp in the face of the coming challenges can hear the Tea Party sharpening the shivs for them too.
Ghey.
This is the first time since Jesus was a baby that Dems will have less than 200 congressman.
This is the best overall midterms in half a century.
Even with such tailwinds you can’t win them all.
I think it’s probably better to not have won control of the senate this time. Hopefully, dopey Harry Reid will continue to be the face of the ‘rat majority. That will only help in 2012.
Imagine if the tea party had decided to go third party. It would have been a repub massacre.
The tea party made the repub party tonight.
