A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.
The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.
This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)
In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.
But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

LOL. Better question is can you marginally like her and not be a deemed a hater, troll, DUer, or enemy of the Republic?

I could have sworn that, a few weeks back, you promised Jim you were going to knock this crap off.
If your feelings for Palin are marginal like, pissant, I’d hate to see your marginal dislike.
That's pathetic even by your non-existent standards.
Of course, there were way too many who loved Obama AND mistakenly believed he’d be an effective president: look what that got them.
>>You can love Palin without wanting her to be president<<
That nails my perspective.
Heck, it’s how I feel about Limbaugh and Beck. I think they can do more good outside of government than in. I told Sarah exactly that when we talked a few months ago. I also told her I’d not be disappointed if she DID run though. :)
I thought he got banned.
I have said this for a long time....
I like her and am glad she is on our team. But I don’t know if she is ready to be quarterback. And I don’t know if that will ever be her best position.
I like Rush. But I don’t think he would make a good president. I like Cheney, but I don’t think he should run. etc.
I cringed when I saw her compared to Jackson. There is a small difference in motives and understanding.
I love the leftist media!!!
The left will always tell us conservatives which candidate is the best by the way they continually attack.
If Palin is so unelectable, why the constant news barrage every time she blinks???
Remember, the media said Reagan was unelectable.
Palin isn’t my first choice, but...
....what were Duncan Hunter’s “numbers” before he thought about running?
Just doing my best to stop the coronation. You want FR to be SarahRepublic?
Which of her teammates do you think is a good choice for president in ‘12?
I personally adore Palin, but don’t want her to run since I believe she is FFAARRR more effective doing what she is doing now.
She is good at rallying the troops, getting people elected, moving the train forward, and thats’ what we need.
If she runs, it will get bogged down in nonsense over her family, advosros, personal BS, etc.
Sarah right now is making money, being very effective, rallying patriotic americans, pissing off the left, and being an icon for women.
And who do you think would make a better president?
As a result of recent allegations that movie star Mel Gibson abused his former girlfriend, are you now less likely to go see a Mel Gibson movie, or wont these allegations affect whether or not you go see a MEL GIBSON MOVIE?
Yeah, that's a really serious and rigorous political poll you're citing, pissant.
How did I know this was your thread before I clicked on it from the sidebar? Has the Falcon Party talked to Ron Paul or Chuck Baldwin yet about 2012? Or maybe Tom Tancredo, Bob Barr or a fruitcake to be named later...
This coming from a guy who routinely and uncritically drags in left-wing trash to using against Palin - like you did here. If you are so concerned with the quality of FR, start with cleaning up your own sorry act.
Politico, John Stewart, 60 Min, and Vanity Fair are telling us that SP will not do?
Can’t wait to see what they say about Mitt, Huck, and Newt.
So I’ll know who to vote for.
Running to Ben Smith of Politico and CBS for confirmation of your Palin hatred is ridiculous and then to accept the premise that she is a Jesse Jackson is over the top.....don’t worry, you will be gone by the end of the year since Jim Robinson has you on a short leash and he warned you on your woman hatred and you won’t be able to contain yourself
