A new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll offers what is, I think, a somewhat misleading way to look at Sarah Palin.
The poll finds that 59% of Americans and 40% of Republicans don't think she'd make an "effective president" -- numbers that come very close to disqualifying her even in the primary, if she chooses to run.
This trouble imagining President Palin is constant across the polling since soon after she was chosen as John McCain's running mate, and it reflects both her own lack of experience and the higher bar set for a woman -- Hillary Clinton did years of carefully projecting the kind of strength Mark Penn thought she needed to show to be a plausible contender. (Holmes and Traister think there's now space for a Palin on the left, but the poll numbers suggest otherwise to me.)
In any case, however, it's possible to adore and follow a political leader without wanting him or her to be President of the United States, or even thinking he or she is qualified. The most frequently drawn parallel with Palin is Jesse Jackson -- popular and respected on much of the left for a time, at least, seen as presidential by smaller numbers.
But the Daily Show's Jon Stewart may be a better example.

I should have added, that another reason I like her best is that she has “no roots” in DC and she’s hostile to the way our business is conducted.
BUT, that will not matter one iota once the 2012 Republican debates start and people see her destroy the other RINO’s on the stage.
Because the headlines then will be nothing but shock and dismay at how wrong people have been about Palin who is obviously very informed on the issues, and is more than qualified to be President.
The Politico article is meaningless banter. The real question is in post number 1, posed by me.
Good points. She’s savvy enough, patriotic enough to do the right thing for the country.
The possessed don’t embarrass. They just get emboldened.
I didn’t eat it. I drank...lol.
So then why did you post it?
The real question is in post number 1, posed by me.
Once again, it's all about you, pissy. If Palin agreed to have you interview her, you'd be singing her praises. After all, you have shown with Duncan Hunter that you are more than willing to overlook his dynastic view towards the Congressional seat.
Marginally like her. Bwahh! You funny guy!
Why is that? I like Sarah a ton and she is my first choice.
However, I am not convinced she even wants to run and if she does run is in the best place to beat ZERO.
Son, you are all over the map today. But I had no idea that Hunter could just hand a seat to someone. I guess GW didn’t earn his election victories either. Who knew?
In other words, anyone who says “I like Sarah Palin, but...” is a concern troll?
And yes, Duncan Hunter was able to use his name recognition and his fundraising contacts to get his son elected. IMO that is wrong - political family dynasties are a bad direction for this country.
But you have no problem rationalizing that, mainly because Hunter sucks up to you and feeds your ego.
that is HILARIOUS!
Is that what it says at the link provided...?
Concern troll? I am accused of being a Palin-Bot on other sites!
I like her more than anyone else out there bar none, but that does not mean I can’t be honest about what I perceive.
If she runs, I will support her ovber anyone else in money, time, etc. If not, ok, then my choice is Thune.
And I am not even convinced she wants to run.
Wrong Glock.
On FR, you cannot like Sarah Palin, but...
Any “concerns” about her just means you’re a “troll”.
Are you answering my question with a question?
