Redcoat refers to regular army, in which Washington never had a commission. You may rest assured that no British regular army officer ever considered Washington's commission in the Virginia militia to be the same as a British regular army commission.

If you were to say that Washington was a soldier of the King, you would be accurate.

As for wanting a regular army commission, I cannot fault Washington for being ambitious and desiring a reward for his service to the King.

If he had received the desired commission, it probably would have been in this regiment.

“As for wanting a regular army commission, I cannot fault Washington for being ambitious”

I was not finding fault with him. Merely pointing out he was very much a British subject.

George is the greatest human in history, IMHO. Much greater than a certain other overrated president.
