BANGKOK, Thailand — Adolf Hitler was a psychopath and a monster but rose to power thanks to big business leaders and other supporters who appreciated his vow to destroy communism and control workers, Hollywood filmmaker Oliver Stone said Monday.
Stone, who is working on a 10-part documentary on the 20th century titled "The Secret History of the United States," said the German dictator was "enabled by Western bankers" and managed to "seduce" Germany's military industrial complex.
"Hitler is a monster. There is no question. I have no empathy for Hitler at all. He was a crazy psychopath," Stone told reporters in the Thai capital. "But like Frankenstein was a monster, there was a Dr. Frankenstein. He is product of his era."
Stone was in Bangkok to give a lecture to high school students on the role of film in peace-building as part of a visit organized by the Vienna-based International Peace Foundation.(continued)

Hitler was a Socialist and cooperated with Stalin at the beginning of the war. There are several magazine covers and Newspaper articles that praised Hitler, Mussolini, and Fascism in the '30's. It made it rather inconvenient when the war started, but there were many in NYC and DC, including Jews, that loved Fascism. One famous one was papa Kennedy. Even JFK was boinking a Nazi and was told to stop by J Edgar Hoover when he joined the Navy. A short trip to the 30's real history would show many American communists and Nazi's that were later revealed by McCarthy. This is the era that brought Socialism to America. The main problem is most Americans don't associate Hitler with left wing politics. No one seems to realize NAZI stands for National Socialist German Workers' Party. I guess having the word "Socialist" in the name is a bit inconvenient.

I believe the fact is in the 1930s U.S. corporations poured billions into Nazi Germany.
Until we experienced Obamanomics I used to wonder why didn't U.S. corporations put their money into the U.S. economy. Now I know. They didn't know what Washington was going to come up with next.
I did not attempt to source this but I do remember reading that after the war at least one U.S. corporation demanded that Washington pay for the damage to its factories caused by U.S. bombs.

Leave it to Oliver Stone, to hype one aspect of an historical and highly controversial figure, in order to overshadow another.
Yes, western financial interests helped bankroll Hitler. It’s difficult to do, knowing what we now know, but step back in time, to a Germany trying to emerge from the extreme difficulties of WWI and hyperinflation. Envision also, the general infatuation with progressive politics, and Hitler was a progressive. The left felt common cause with him, as much as with Stalin, who was then and remained “Uncle Joe.”
What Stone seeks to marginalize is the dim but re-emerging public knowledge, that western ideological interests held far more sway with Hitler than did financial ones, as far as the bizarrely ugly, industrial scale killing that occurred.
It wasn’t just Margaret Sanger. Eugenics was widely accepted among the political classes of several countries, the United States and England included. It was scientific, it was modern, it was a Very Good Thing. It was progressive, such an admirable thing, progress. These people provided the inspiration for what was to come in Germany, among them some astonishingly prominent individuals, not just in the political realm, but academic, literary and film, as well. This they did even after the monsters began to reveal themselves.
This is what Oliver Stone is spinning. It strikes to the heart of his in-crowd, his heroes, his inspirations.
Hitler was brought to power becuase he was a “great speaker” that talked about being a “unifier” and at the same time was demonizing private citizens.

You're thinking Vannevar Bush. He was in charge of coordinating the exploitation of science and technology for military use during WWII, including the Manhattan Project, the development and adaptation of the radio proximity fuse for various weapons (the most challenging of which were artillery and mortar rounds) and other projects. As far as I know, he's not related to the political Bush family.
