Doug Hoffman pledged to help Dede Scozzafava in an e-mail sent two days after the Republican Party passed over the Lake Placid accountant for the nomination.
The e-mail, sent from Mr. Hoffman's business account on July 24 and provided by the Scozzafava campaign, states in full: "Hi Dede, Congratulations and the best of luck in your candidacy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Doug."
This is contrary to what Mr. Hoffman, who is now running against Ms. Scozzafava as a Conservative candidate, told me less than two weeks later.

What if the pledge says, that he will support the propoerly nominated canidate, and the nomination was rigged?
You’re being very bad this morning, but I have to say Hoffman did seem slightly inbred when he was on Beck’s show, but he was eventually dragged to right answers. It was exhausting though.
I'm not sure you know all the facts.
Three local GOP county chairs voted for Scozzafatty in the first round of a special so-called election giving Scozzofatty 45% of the "vote". Since no candidate reached the required majority a second round followed and in that round a fourth party chair swithced over to Scozzafatty.
The RNC was not involved with the vote. In fact the RNCC held back support from Scozzafatty because she was fairly liberal.
It wasn't until Dede was dragged kicking and screaming to make a pledge about lower taxes, being against Cap and Trade and being against Obamacare, that the RNC finally gave her money.
All of that occured AFTER Scozzafatty finally agreed to support the conservative posistions on Cap and Trade, Obamacare and Taxes. Your claim that "the party is being untrue to the conservatives" I think is hyperbole.
You and I both may agree that Hoffman is the one to support in this election, but I'm not out there trashing the RNC for a problem they didn't create and for at least holding back money until the liberal Scozzafava agreed to support the conservative posistions on the major issues of the day.
Based on Hoffman's changing "word"?
HOFFMAN CLARIFIES POSITIONFirst he opposes, then he squirms, then he supports, then he denies.Mr. Hoffman said Friday that he stands "firmly opposed" to the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," despite his press secretary saying otherwise Thursday.
The Conservative candidate was asked by the Watertown Daily Times for his position on the federal policy, which prohibits homosexuals from openly serving in the military. The policy also prohibits superior officers from asking a service member if he or she is gay, but allows the military to prosecute and discharge a service member who publicly discloses his or her sexual orientation.
"No one should be persecuted or prosecuted based on their beliefs," Mr. Hoffman said in an e-mail exchange Thursday. "As an Army veteran, I served honorably with many different people."
The Times asked if that statement meant he would support repealing the policy. Sandy Caligiore, Mr. Hoffman's press liaison, replied: "Doug would vote for its repeal."
Mr. Hoffman said Friday that Mr. Caligiore "was not authorized to speak on this issue" and that the press secretary "had not cleared the quote with either me or my senior advisers."
So Hoffman, Scozzafava or Owens. None of them will advance the cause of conservatism in your opinion. So why the post hammering Hoffman?
My theory is supported: you don’t care about advancing the cause of conservatism, this was a hit job on one candidate to the advantage of a candidate that you yourself admit will not advance the cause of conservatism.
The local party was not true to the poeple this time but the overall party is also not true to us.
Time to take a break.
I've not seen it yet and I've been here all day, too.
FRepers: Don't feed the trolls!
You know nothing about "His interests" or his motives or his strategies. And none of you malcontents would even know what being in the majority was like if it wasn't for Newt. Why is it you can't disagree with him without trashing his motives?
Probably because her mask fell off and shes exposed as a liberal. Funny how liberals try to masquerade themselves as something theyre not. Ironic that it happened so close to Halloween.
What?
Dede was endorsed by both the WFA and the Conservative Party in the same 2004 and 2006 elections. She is a known long time pro abort.
To say that Dede has been hiding her liberal points-of-view and to say that her scary Halloween mask just fell off, is inaccurate.
As I said: Here's another flip for you all. The Conservative Party of NY was for Scozzafatty before they were against her.
(Not enough to change my support for Hoffman, but it is well worth noting.)
So a few weeks ago, NRCC calls looking for donations. Knowing how important 2010 is, I commit. Then I hear about Dede, well no way in hell do I want my money going to candidates like her. So I send back their letter with an explanation that I can’t be party to supporting ACORN’s people.
Did I lie? Or did I change my mind as more available information came to light? Did Bush lie about WMDs? Or did he say what he believed only to learn otherwise later?
A lie is an intentional deception. Clearly Hoffman wasn’t intentionally deceiving.....
Where’s the pledge?
Stay true to what, exactly? Planned Barrenhood? The NOW gang? Moloch?
It would take far more than someone changing his mind on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” to make me vote for a Liberal over a Conservative.
Where’s the pledge?
Ronald Reagan tried to get a LAW HE SIGNED into effect repealed. By your standards, he lied. When actually he saw how the law was implemented and realized he couldn’t stand behind it.
Your every post in this thread supports her, whether you mean it or not.
Clean up your language, knock off the continual personal attacks and stay off this thread.
now THAT is a stretch. I give you that he had to clarify his position. you have a grudge with Hoffman, are you sure you are on the right forum? 672 posts and you are overwhelmingly out numbered.
