I'm SUGGESTING the Nordyke announcement was already included in the lay-out of the paper ready to be printed.

If this scenario is true, I'm envisioning camera-ready strips of layout sheets with blue lines, beeswax backing, a light table, and an Exacto knife.

No. That process didn’t come into widespread use until the early 1970s.

The Hawaii newspapers were almost certainly still using linotype machines and lead in 1961, along with everyone else.
