Any way it was possible that she just picked up where she left off when she returned to the states? A U.S. passport is good for 10 years and she was only gone from ‘67 to ‘72. She could have had a mailing address at her mother’s (mom covered for her and Barry) when in Indonesia. I assume the Indonesian government would not have considered it necessary to write a letter to the U.S. (State Dept.?) to tell them that one of their citizens just forfeited her U.S. citizenship. Since there were no income statements going to the I.R.S., maybe her absence was never noted officially. There of course could be something of which I am not aware that blows this theory out of the water.
children under 16 with their own passport is valid for 5 years in the 60’s a child under about 8 years of age could be put on their mothers passport or could have their own,
Even Registered Aliens (Green Card) can be gone for some time..
When I came here in 1971 I could be out of the country for long stretches as long as I returned before a 12 month period was up...
There! I found the poster and the post. A US Passport was good for only 5 years in the 1960s. About 15-20 years ago they raised the price, and they extended the length of time they were valid at the same time.
