I'm looking to buy a gun for protection and a riffle for hunting. I have handled guns but it has been a long time so I have become rather ignorant on what to have. So I'm asking the gun owners on FR to chime in and give advice on this and if possible some guide lines on what to pay for a good gun and riffle. Thanks
Thank You
VERY GOOD: All original parts; none to 30% original finish; original metal surfaces smooth with all edges sharp; clear lettering, numerals and design on metal; wood slightly scratched or bruised; bore disregarded for collectors firearms.
I would post a link for it but I'm not looking for any competition. I did find a good search engine for guns and that is www.ebang.com it search all the online auctions.
That’s what I have (S&W 442). I’m thinking I need a shotgun and a rifle as well.
I recently purchased a reconditioned sig for under 300 dollars, two clips a holster, etc.
It was a german police force weapon. They buy them back when new are purchased. I figured a cop takes care of it. Other than qualification how much does a cop shoot. they'e taken back to he factory armors and gone over. i have 500 plus rounds thru it and not one blip in its performance.I bought mine for protection when I'm ice fishing, somewtimes 15 miles out on a frozen lake in indian territory if you know what i mean. I,ve learnd to be prepared there is always that 1%. It rides in the bottom of my portable behind my snowmobile. Frozen and stiff I've pulled it out a killed lb. propane cylinders with never a problem.
For the home, i,d go with remington 870 and 00 buck
I used to work security at a nuclear facilty. ONe of the test quesitons was about caliber of 00 buck. .32 caliber I believe and yes 9 pellets. sounds perfect to me.
I handled one of those german cop guns in a gun shop awhile back. Something about it I just didn’t care for...at the moment I can’t remember what it was. But something made me hand it back after about 5 seconds and say “no thanks”. Possibly the trigger. I just can’t recall.
Being used, there is going to be some variation. Maybe the one i looked at was off a little.
But I’ve handled several brand new american versions and even some refurbished american cop(or FBI?) versions. They were always impressive. I especially like the sig style decocker lever.
If I could build my own pistol any way I wanted it, I’d start with a beretta M9 and add a sig decocker lever and a 1911 style safety. Then convert it to the beretta PX4 storm rotating lug mechanism...an open top rotating barrel...oh yeah! Then I’d give it an ultra high grip position like a glock.
I have one it's a great gun and it is loaded with shot ready to be racked.
I paid four and a quarter for my 4" model. I know of folks who gave just under $400 so keep looking. $600 is a wee bit over the top. The 45 colt rounds were the hardest for me to find for mine. I just recently bought 10 boxes (50 per box) at a local gun show.

I used to keep a Ruger P90 .45 by my bed in a holster with an extra clip in the holster filled with Hydroshock bullets (super hollowpoint) because the intruder will not just get mad when hit, it WILL stop him. Plus, it won’t go through the intruder....through a wall and into another family member.
I would like a flashlight mount on it and a laser sight but haven’t purchased that.
Right now I just have a S&W .38 airlight with the handle sicking out of the mattress (also with hollow points)
A shot gun is the best defensive weapon. If the barrel is short, a legally blind person could stop an intruder in the dark.
A rifle wouldn’t be needed unless there was some type of Red Dawn situation or some type of lawless civil unrest (riots, uprisings, zombie attacks ;-) so you can keep enemies away before they get to your house.
I live in Texas where the gun laws make sense. I keep a Kel-Tek p32 in my front pocket when out in public. It’s the smallest and lightest .32 and with Hydroshocks, it will stop your attacker.
All I can say is try it out for yourself. I've heard that line before and I have to wonder at their motives for saying that. I happen to like mine for home defence and for anti-carjacking protection.
That would surly deter any creetan from try to take you car
Now I will begin to get ammo for it and I have my eye on a 9mm carbine so I will begin to get ammo for it while I'm saving up for the carbine.
After checking around ammo is getting very hard to find. So I would strongly suggest everyone to buy it when you can.
Put a pistol grip on it, and learn to shoot from the hip.
I bought an SKS this weekend for the same reason you state you need a gun, home protection first, and possibly hunting if needed. It’s got a small scope on it, with a synthetic folding stock, it’s beautiful. :)
Heh heh, that’d be sweeeet
