ATLANTA — In a cultural war that has pitted Old South against new, defenders of the Confederate legacy have opened a fresh front in their campaign to polish an image tarnished, they said, by people who do not respect Southern values.

With the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States in 2011, efforts are under way in statehouses, small towns and counties across the South to push for proclamations or legislation promoting Confederate history.

“defenders of the Confederate legacy”

No matter what you think or do, the Confederacy and Slavery will always be connected in history and equated with one another.

"This is a new day. The Confederacy lost, and the majority of the American people will not accept these ideas about a renegade group of folks who decided they would overthrow the U.S. government."

This statement is all the more reason why we need a Confederate History Month.

Here this boy is, a state representative from Georgia, and he thinks the CSA's goal was to 'overthrow' the US federal government!! (Of course, he is a democrat, which means he ain't none too bright..........)

Ya reckon he got his American history education in a PC public school?

“Mark your calendars!”

Why?

There was nothing noble about the Confederacy. Nothing.

Would it be possible to have all the states celebrate it on ONE day?

No matter what you think or do, the Confederacy and Slavery heroic defense of states rights and republican values against a terrible onslaught from a federal invader will always be connected in history and equated with one another.

There, fixed it for you. Yank

Yes, but that 'connection' shouldn't be shrouded in the revisionist history that is taught to those minds of mush trapped in the government propaganda centers (aka-public school), written by radical, left-wing, South hating, race baiting, northeast liberal yankees.

Did you read the whole article? The last paragraph is a perfect example of why we need a Confederate History month.

Sort of like the federal government standardizing all the nations holidays?

No, I sorta like the idea of the individual states choosing when and why they want to have a holiday.

There was nothing noble about the Confederacy. Nothing.

You want to discuss this, or have you made up your Yankee mind? I guess there is nothing wrong with the USA today? The states area joke.

And what has the Yankee wrought? An overwhelming federal state that is just about to crush every thing I hold precious.

Mr. Lincoln you freed the slaves which was right, however, in doing so we are all now to be slaves of the federal state? A surgeon doesn't kill the patient while declaring the surgery a success?

Good job, central_va.

After the tariff standoff in 1833, Andrew Jackson wrote, "The tariff was only the pretext, and disunion and southern confederacy the real object. The next pretext will be the negro, or slavery question."

States rights was the cause; slavery was the occasion.

As a person from down here, I would say there is NOTHING wrong with honoring the thousands upon thousands of people who died in that war. Even if they lost, they were still Americans.
