People generally leave the hospital in their own clothing.

Generally. I had taken my infant son back east to the grandparents when we had an apartment fire. My late husband, after rescuing 2 older people from the building, spent a few days in the hospital w/smoke inhalation. His clothes were cut off in the ER.

We knew no one in the town, and as stated above, I was out of town. The hospital released him in a hospital gown - no underwear, no shoes, nothing. They gave him a voucher and a bus token so he could get to a clothing store. It has been many years, but to this day I think of my husband, a VN vet who fought for his country, with all of our belongings destroyed and our apartment gone, on the bus in a hospital gown, trying to find some clothes.

I'm as much of a conservative as the rest of you people, but I swear, I can't believe you don't find the idea of a parapalegic left on the street abhorent. I would say it is against Christian principles, but I'm not a Christian. Apparently many of you are not Christians either.

I would find it abhorent, if he did not live on the street. But apparently he did. Hospitals generally do not even transport you home after discharge. That seems to have been the case with your late husband.

This hospital did apparently transport this guy “home.” His “home” just is just not very appealing to the most of the population.

Thank you for putting a very human face to this story. I can’t image how painful, degrading, humiliating and completely unnecessary your late husband’s experience was. He should have been treated better and with much more dignity and respect.

Sometimes very bad things can happen to some very good people without any fault of their own.

I would say it is against Christian principles, but I'm not a Christian. Apparently many of you are not Christians either.

I’m not a Christian either and so I am also appalled by some people who claim to be so and who also claim to be conservatives. This is not about who is going to pay the bill in the end. It’s not about cost controls or socialized medicine. It’s about how we as human beings choose to treat other human beings. If we treat some people like human garbage because they are weak, sick and defenseless and without an advocate, then how can we also claim to be pro-life and proclaim to protect the weak and defenseless unborn?
