My heart breaks for the Professor and his wife and I offer my condolences. Your son’s brave service will be heralded and applauded and his death will be grieved on this Board, sir.
Duh..... It’s called Islam. You can’t transform an Islamic society into a modern, free and democratic society because Islam mandates adherence to a ancient tribal society thousands of years old. The only way to transform the middle east is to ban Islam.
We didn’t utterly destroy Germany and Japan. The difference is Fascism is an ideology of the elite. We killed the elite and anyone else willing to fight to the death for Fascism and once we had done that, everyone else in Germany and Japan were willing to get on with their lives. They didn’t care that they were no longer living under a Fascist leadership.
Can’t do that in the Middle East. Islam is an ideology of the masses. Everyone in the middle east is willing to fight to the death for Islam. In that respect it is a much more deadly ideology than fascism. Islam is more like Communism.
"1st Lt. Andrew J. Bacevich of Walpole, Mass., on assignment in Iraq. Bacevich was killed Sunday, May 13, 2007, when an improvised device exploded while he was on a combat patrol in Salah Ad Din Province, Iraq."
“It was an honest assertion that the Iraqi people wanted to be free and most Iraqis would fight for that freedom.”
Muslims don’t want freedom. They want to live in slavery under an Islamic theocracy. Just look at who they vote for whenever they get a chance to vote. Even the majority of Turkish Muslims want to live under an Islamic theocracy. Only their constitution, backed by the power of the military, has prevented an Islamic theocracy from coming to power.
What a loss.
Great point. It is we who have changed. We have also used the UN as a third branch of government.
“Unfortunately, the son paid for the sins of his father.”
How so? What about the families who support the war who have lost sons and daughters? Who’s sins were their children “paying” for?
You're welcome....
To be fair they justr had protests of hundreds of thousands of people against Islamist rule(rs).
Fourth branch.
Thanks for the ping. I just realized the last time I saw Colonel Bacevich he was the same age as 1LT Bacevich. We were in the Armor Officer Advanced Course (74-75) and he looked just like his son. It was obvious to everyone then that Captain Bacevich was an incredibly brilliant and principled officer. He definitely screwed up the grading curve for the rest of us.
This is a tragedy, but it should be remembered that every American who has encouraged the enemy to keep fighting has contributed to the deaths of our soldiers.
You’re the lowest form of human life and I doubt you can feel the shame that should gripping your soul.
Because someone is against the conduct of this war they are encouraging the enemy to fight? I know stupid. And that’s stupid.

True, but they still elected the Islamic party into power. They say the party is no longer Islamic of course so that it won’t be banned, but it is Islamic in everything but name. Only the secular Muslims want freedom and democracy in Turkey. The rest want Islamic sharia law. Secular Muslims are outnumbered. It is only the constitution and the military that is keeping freedom, such as it is, alive in Turkey.
Are you saying Colonel Bacevich is a traitor?
God rest his soul...
What sin is Colonel Bacevich paying for?
