I was just lurking on this thread and that stats argument got me curious. Using the FBI web site and the Census web site I was able to harvest the following information:

From the 2000 census
Percentage of Americans claiming "White alone or in combination with one or more other races": 77.1%
Percentage of Americans claiming "Black alone or in combination with one or more other races": 12.9%

From the 2005 arrest statistics*
Percentage of arrests for violent crimes ("Whites" ): 59.0%
Percentage of arrests for violent crimes ("Blacks" ): 38.8%

Percentage of arrests for property crimes ("Whites" ): 68.8%
Percentage of arrests for property crimes ("Blacks" ): 28.6%

From 2005Murder Offenders
Percentage of offenders ("Whites" ): 32.0%
Percentage of offenders ("Blacks" ): 37.6%

Do "Blacks" commit a majority of crime? The statistics say No, they do not.
Do "Blacks" commit a disproportionate amount of crime? The statistics say Yes, they do.

*Note: I don't care for the "arrest" statistics because arrests are not convictions. However, I didn't see any other crime categories broken down by race except for murder.
