I was surprised Melinda didn’t make it into the final but had an inkling that Melinda’s support might not be as strong as I’d thought when my wife said she got a lot fewer busy signals voting for Melinda than she did voting for Jordin. I was looking forward to a Melinda vs. Jordin finale. I’ve always liked Melinda and think she is the most talented of the bunch, but I’ve been hoping for Jordin to win it all for the past several weeks. It’s a really easy choice for me now—I may even vote for the first time ever.

You're probably one of the GOOD moms who makes sure their "teenybopper" has done her homework, and makes sure she goes to bed at a decent hour; not up way past her bed time racking up the cell 'phone bill with text messages!

Nope, I'm one of those BAD mom's that let's her 4.0, 16 year old son stay up until 11:00pm, which he did, voting for Blake. I never have to tell him to do his homework. He gets home from school, grabs a snack and then does his homework, if he has any. He usually does it all at school. Can you tell I'm proud of him? :)

I don't understand why people think that Blake can't have any fans that aren't immature young girls.

I didn’t want to keep hearing about the kid (flashbacks of Fantasia) but I do wish her well.

It reminded me of Fantasia, too, but she obviously loves her little girl so, I guess it's normal to talk about her, especially when she was asked about her so much.

I got equally tired though of hearing how Jordin was only 17 or about Melinda the humble back up singer. But, what can we expect when they don't pass through interesting people.

I really wanted the opera singer to get through. I think that is the big disappointment for me. I wanted to see what she could do. Maybe she have flopped right away, but I wanted to see/hear hos she did. She did make it to Hollywood didn't she? I don't recall seeing any footage of her from there so I am wondering if I was mistaken about her getting through to there.

Calling the “866” number is free, as far as I know. It’s texting that costs the big bucks per vote.

Yep. We don't even have a cell phone. So many people I know don't have regualr phones anymore. All they have are their cell phones and its seems they are always beeping because their energy is too low.

True. As long as it isn’t constantly repeated the way it was with Fantasia. It seemed like every week it was “singlemomsinglemomsinglemomsinglemom”.

And I wish I had a dollar for everytime I heard Jordin is 17. LOL.

The opera singer just vanished. Like so many others whose auditions & Hollywood experience we saw & then....nothin’.

The opera singer, she did make it to Hollywood though, right?

I am so sad that Melinda was sent home last night that I don’t even feel like posting today.

I don’t think I agree entirely with your analysis. Yes, we do like to see someone who improves from week to week, and there is always the charm of the ugly duckling who turns into a beautifu swan at the end of the story.

I think Melinda just wasn’t flashy enough. She is modest and understated. She wouldn’t let her boobs bounce around (like LaKisha), or try outlandish hairdos (Sanjaya), or sing songs with dirty lyrics (like Blake).

Melinda would not compromise her Christian beliefs.

She is already a real winner in many other ways. She doesn’t need AI.

She did. We didn’t see her much after the audition though.

So I suppose if it got out that he's gay that he would have lots of guys voting for him as well, and he'd win by a landslide?

Well, he is kinda cute! Apple, I have an idea that if he is gay it would not affect the Ashleys of the world.

Oh for crying out loud.

Why does one's Christian beliefs need to be used as an alibi for her being voted off?

The reason for her going home has nothing to do with her voice OR her stage persona...as they are top-notch.

It's because she couldn't and/or wouldn't connect with her fans.

Put another way, they felt she would be difficult to market as an Idol sensation.

Flashing boobs is a strawman...although you must admit she is scary looking. To me, she is like that character in Awakening when Robert DiNero came out of a vegetable state and eventually returned.

Melinda's stage persona is an phony act. As soon as the music stops she reverts back to a mute.

Wonderful post, Palladin! I woke up this morning so sad about Melinda. Seems there are others out there (see MJ's Blog) who also agree.

Thank you for saying what so desperately needed saying.

It's all about preferences. Had Blake left, I probably wouldn't have watched the finale.

Chris is NOT the better singer. Chris' music is more commercially marketable, he still screams all his songs. Sorry, that's not siging.

You got that right. Chris usually screams, and even when he's not screaming, he's singing from his throat. Plus toward the end he really seemed to be getting a 'tude, like he thought he deserved to win. I think I was just about the only person in the world who wasn't totally shocked when he was voted off.

Cool - I’m glad she’s not trying to turn into a human X-ray. I was also very impressed to hear that she, Clay and Ruben all prayed before each show - and prayed for each other.

I hate to do something like this, but I will bet twenty bucks in front of God and everyone, that Jordin, and not Blake will win. I took someone up on a bet like the one I just proposed, years ago, over the Gary Condit affair, and I won, and he never paid up. But it’s up to you-—Blake just doesn’t have the widespread appeal to pull in tens of millions of votes, over Jordin. I have said Jordin will win for almost three months.
