I would suggest that there is a movement afoot to drive a wedge between social and economic conservatives. This effort will be detrimental to to both halves of the party and the only measurable result will be the election of liberals.Absolutely, and it's been going on for a while now and nowhere more noticeable than here at FR and the last election.
Social conservatives think they own the party and are putting party before country.

I'm sorry but that comment is precisely what I'm talking about. I'm both socially and economically conservative as I'm sure most conservatives are and the attempt to call one side selfish isn't productive.
Rudy is a fine, even great, leader but he will not get the social conservatives out to the polls, he just won't. In order to win the election in '08 we need a candidate that is both.
